Due Date:
Apr 30 2009

This is a Compare/Contrast  historical presentation project
See scoring guide for specifics on assessment.

The overall plan for this project:
First research the work of the two artists.  After you have a significant familiarity with the majority of their work (and remember to look at earlier work as well as later work in addition to what they are famous for) then start to ask yourself:  How are these two artist’s styles the same?  What elements do they use in a similar manner?  How are they different?  Also, you will need to look at the techniques of shooting they use – what kind of camera, film or glass plate negs, what kind of positives – gelatin silver paper, platinum, albumen, callotype, etc. – to compare those aspects as well.   You will have to have copies of the work you refer to as being similar or different in various ways and include them in the report as an index.  Include pictures of the camera type the artist used if you can find them. Then you will work with your partner, discovering similarities and differences between the work of your famous photographers and your work. Your final presentation will be either a Google Presentation or a VoiceThread, posted to the Digital Photgraphy Group.

STEPS:
Complete with your partner, the wiki page in the Digital Photography Group for each photographer. Remember to cite every bit of information that you add to the wiki page. The better you cite, the greater the chance that you will succeed in adding valuable, reliable information that can be confirmed as true.

EVERY time you add to the wiki page, click Submit. THEN make sure that you add a Comment to the wiki page for your partner describing what you added and why you added it and what you discovered or are now wondering about your photographer. Also add any questions or feedback about what your partner last added to the page.

As you do this, think of your own work! What can you learn from these famous photographers? What did they try that you would like to learn? What did they do that you never even thought about trying? What did they do that makes you feel like kindred spirits? What do you admire? How will seeing and knowing this photographer's work affect you and your work?

When you are ready to create the presentation to share with everyone, in Google Docs File> New> Presentation or create a VoiceThread. You probably will not have more than 6-8 slides at most.

MAKE SURE YOU CITE EVERY PHOTO IN YOUR PRESENTATION!!!! Make sure that your project is shared by both you and your partner so you both have access to building and editing it. That means the url where you found the photograph, the photographer and the date it was taken and the title of the photograph. Make sure that in changing the size to fit your presentation you constrain the proportions so that you don't stretch the artist's work.

After you have edited and checked the presentation, click on Publish, copy the URL of your presentation or do the same for your VoiceThread.

In Youth Voices, Home>Add to My Blog>Discussion>link your presentation URL and embed your project. Make sure to check your school group and the Digital Photography Group and make it Public.
