A simple search of the major events of the past decade brings up interesting and controversial topics. Most are political: Syria, Obamacare, various U.S. elections, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc. While these are pertinent to modern society, in my mind the most important events of the 21st century have been scientific.
A few significant stories of the 21st century include the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the death of Pope John Paul II, and the Newtown, Connecticut shootings in 2012.
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been Emperor Selassie. I remember listening to reggae music and hearing the artist praising Emperor Selassie but I never knew who he was. . Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that people may feel I don’t really need to know about Emperor Selassie because I am not of the Rastafari religion so it won’t matter to learn about him. From what I have heard, For example, I heard Emperor Selassie was like the God of Ethiopia. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true.
So far, the 21st century has been full of noteworthy events. It is difficult to choose only three but these are the stories which I believe have played a significant part in shaping the last 12 years.
These are, in my opinion, the top three most important stories of the 21st century.
1) 9/11
- This event prompted us to go to war in Iraq, and send troops to afghanistan. Indirectly it is also responsible for the continued conflicts we are facing in the Middle East today. It has affected many of our governments policies, and affected the personal lives of many US citizens. We can still see the effect it has on our decisions today. Our response to this event greatly impacted the world’s opinion of our nation.
The 21st century has been tumultuous to say the least. There have been huge advances, horrifying tragedies, and a lot of debating. There certainly has not been a dull moment.
Of all the events in the last century, the most notable ones are the cause of many other front page headlines. Such notable news stories include 9/11, the collapse of the US housing market, and the rise of social media.
The 21st century so far has certainly been one to remember. So many life-altering and world-changing events have happened, it is sometimes to hard to keep track. I think that there are far more than three important events that have happened in the 21st century, but here are three that I found to be particularly important.
There have been many large stories that have happened so far this century. To, the three biggest were Pablo Sandoval's 3 homeruns, the 2008 election, and 9/11.
1) 9/11: The attacks directed toward the United States by the terrorist group known as Al Qaeda blowing up the World Trade Center in New York City was the most influential event of the 21st century. Occurring on September 11, 2001 taking 2,752 lives this event still has effects on us today. An obvious result of this was the tightening up of airport security. Still we see direct links from this attack and the beginning of the war in Afghanistan. It also forced the United States to overhaul on government intelligence gathering.
1. Osama Bin Laden’s death: May 2, 2011 SEAL team 6 takes down Al Qaeda's leader. Decades of terror under the leadership of Bin Laden ended in a firefight at his headquarters in Abbottabad Pakistan. America and Bin Laden have had a tense relationship and in 1998 Bin Laden went as far as saying, “ kill Americans wherever they are found,” and he even took responsibility for the attacks of 9/11.

Throughout the 21st century there have been many significant events that have spiraled throughout the years. For one, the United States have elected their first African American President. Barack Obamas re election has made an even bigger impact on many Americans. He has changed the way we look at race, politics, and many more controversial issues we have today.
There have been been many important events that have developed or changed our world in the 21st Century but their are 3 that have stood above the rest: 9/11, Start of iTunes, Facebook, and Youtube, and ... 9/11 caused a global fear of the extremist group Al-Qaeda and sparked a mutual hatred between the western and the eastern world. No forms of media have shaped how we live our lives more than iTunes, Facebook, and Youtube. ... .
I believe the most significant event of the decade has been mass shootings, as well as the gun law controversy that followed. There have been numerous shootings, including the Newtown tragedy and the Aurora tragedy. President Obama is currently working on making progress concerning gun laws, but it is such a controversial issue that unfortunately, Republicans won't see middle ground with Democrats, and the process is extremely slow. The NRA has a very high level of power too, and combining all of those factors, gun laws have not been changed yet.
I believe the most prevalent and recent tragic and current event that people have to deal with is probably the Boston bombing. The amount of damage that was done and the terror it stilled within the citizens of Boston is a terrible thing, but it is also the one event that everyone seems to be focusing on.
September 11, 2001 was a devastating day in American History. As a first grader I still remember watching the planes go into the towers and seeing the smoke. I think this story is one of the biggest of the 21st century because of how it affected so many people. It was my generation’s Pearl Harbor. Almost anyone you ask can tell you where they were when they heard the news. 9/11 brought fear to the U.S., but also a sense of community among our nation.
The 21st century has been chock-full of big stories. For this assignment I've narrowed it down to what I think are the top three stories thus far in the century. In third place, I've chosen The Great Recession. In second, the rise of social media. And in my opinion, the biggest event of the twenty-first century was the 9/11 attacks. Here's why:
Many tragic things have happened in the 21st century so far.
The first, is the violence that we have seen. This violence has been seen in shootings like Sandy Hook and the Colorado movie theater. These shootings have provoked many people to demand better gun control laws. Other ways we have seen violence is in the terrorist attacks like 9/11 and the Boston Marathon.
The second is the series of natural disasters that brought destruction to many different places. These include hurricane Katrina, hurricane Sandy, hurricane Ike, the earthquake in Japan, and the earthquake in Haiti.
The terror caused by Al Qaeda over the past 12 years has moderately lessened due to the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. This is a very historical time in our history, as the Seal Team Six eliminates United State’s most prominent terrorist.
What are the causes of breast cancer? this question has been around for a very long time and me as a young woman I feel the need to inform myself and others about the causes of breast cancer and some of the ways we can potentially prevent ourselves from getting breast cancer, or even help ourselves become a survivor. I wanted to use this topic mainly because I have two woman in my life who have suffered from this horrific disease. Also, as a girl I feel like I should know more about this disease and the causes of it.
One sentence Karina wrote that stands out for me is "If we truly cared" This is interesting because try my best to help a person, but i see other people won't do the same. Because money has made us turn on one another, we have groups who just stay within themselves. Like all the rich people stay together, and the poor all live in another certain area people have more money than others, when I have food I give to the poor, or give homeless change, or if my friends are hungry i'll buy them something to eat or even if someone needs to get swiped on either the bus or train.
Completion of the Human Genome Project: The completion of the Human Genome Project, HGP, in April 2003 was one of the most remarkable accomplishments of the 21st century. Although this landmark wasn’t spontaneous but merely the final culmination of decades of research and work through international collaboration, the project’s completion marked a major cornerstone for genetic research.

What qualifies an event as important to the history of our world? Thats a hard question. There are so many goes-ons in our world today and thanks to the media, news is happening all the time. There are several events that go on with in this country but how have such events influenced the world? The following are three events that have occurred in the past 13 years and have had major influence across the globe.
1. The most significant event of the 21st century was the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Because of the repercussions that followed this attack, it changed the world. President Bush called for a War on Terror on September 20th, following the attack, which has cost the United States a rough total of $1.3 trillion dollars. The Dow dropped more than 600 points after the attack. U.S economy has not been the same since.
