1984
Why is our society so obsessed with utopian and dystopian literature? Especially among the youth population, we can see a clear trend in popularity with such books. For example, Suzanne Collin's series the Hunger Games series has become one of the most popular book series among our generation, the first book selling over 17.5 million copies since its first publication in 2008. I even find myself obsessing over George Orwell's 1984. But what makes these dystopian novels so popular, and the thought of a conformed, totalitarian society in general? "Maybe it has something to do with entering middle school or the onset of teenage angst, but the future doesn't always look so bright and rosy for young readers." -Powell's Books. Why do you think our generation has this obsession? The draw of an intense conflict and solution? Hoping we would act like the heroic, main character in a similar society? The exposure to such violence, sexual oppression, censorship and futurology?

"Teen Angst"
I agree with the "teen angst" comment. Many teenagers may view their world as a dystopian society, what with everyone "out to get them." Typical teenage point of view... But perhaps this dystopian literature is something they can identify with, or something they feel validates their point.
