2010 Haiti Earthquake.

Recently in English, we've been studying the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. At first, I thought about how strong this earthquake was and how many people had died from it. I was happy to see how many people are helping out to Haiti. The Haitians received many donations such as food and money. When I saw pictures of the earthquake, I started to think of the pain the victims are going through. The victims had their skin ripped off, they were bleeding, and some had to get amputations. It was scary. I know that many people feel that people should donate to the Haitians because they lost everything. The main hospital is gone and now nurses and doctors from different places of the earth have went to Haiti to give surgeries to the victims. After doing this study, I feel this issue is very important and everyone should know about it if they haven't yet. For example, I heard that there were many aftershocks and it killed even more people so this earthquake was really dangerous and big.
One thing that I know for sure about the 2010 Haiti Earthquake is that it had a magnitude of 7. Now I've studied my share of Earth Science, and a 7 magnitude is very horrible and it will kill many people and it definetly did. Also I heard that there were quite a number of aftershocks and their magnitudes were around 5. I'm glad I took Earth science class because its very important. I saw how my understanding of earth science connects to this 2010 haiti earthquake.
I did some research on the 2010 haiti earthquake. I came across this one article: http://en.wikipedia.org/2010_Haiti_earthquake.
This article provided a lot of information and opinions on the 2010 haiti earthquake. Some people felt that the 2010 haiti earthquake were very destructive. "Amongst the widespread devastation and damage throughout Port-au-Prince and elsewhere, vital infrastructure necessary to respond to the disaster was severely damaged or destroyed. This included all hospitals in the capital, air, sea, and land transport facilities, and communication systems." A lot of buildings were destroyed. The hospitals were the most important but now they're gone. Without hospitals, where will the victims go for help, and also it was a lot that was hurt. But thankfully, there were doctors and nurses from other areas that came to give a helping hand.
In another source that I looked at, http://www.democracynow.org/2010/1/14/the_sound_of_screaming_is_constant, there was this one statement that me nod my head in agreement with the writer. It was: "The injuries just kept coming all day long—head injuries, people with multiple broken legs, people catatonic who couldn’t speak. Everybody is asking for medicine. You know, we don’t have basic—we don’t have Advil. We didn’t have gauze. We don’t have hydrogen peroxide. Like, it was one nurse and me, who happened to be a guest at this hotel because my wife is doing HIV work in the country. I happened to be there to help this nurse, but I have no medical training, and I just had to do whatever he explained to me to do." This is so true because with a strong earthquake like that, buildings were fallen on people, there was no safe place at all for the Haitians at that moment. So everyone was just getting hurt. Medication is very important right now because without it, the wound or injury will be infected. They don't want that to happen.
All of this makes me think about how lucky I'am to still be alive. Haiti gets these natural disasters alot. I have never experienced how it is to be in a earthquake and I dont want to.  I hope the survivors gets help and shelter.

I chose this picture to show how destructive the earthquake was. Look at the building.

Dear Anna,

I was reading through your post and the first thing I realized was how much I agreed with you. The one thing I knew for sure was that it was the worst natural disaster to hit Haiti in the last 200 years, which is pretty bad. And that a 7.0 earthquake is pretty destructive.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: "When I saw pictures of the earthquake, I started to think of the pain the victims are going through." When I first saw pictures of the earthquake, those exact feelings were going through my mind. I couldn't help but think of the people still buried under the rubble and crying out for help, just barely hanging on to life.

Thanks for your writing! :]

Dear Ana mei

I enjoy reading your post. I like the way you describe everything. Your writing was nice to read.

This paragraph caught my attention: "know that many people feel that people should donate to the Haitians because they lost everything. The main hospital is gone and now nurses and doctors from different places of the earth have went to Haiti to give surgeries to the victims. After doing this study, I feel this issue is very important and everyone should know about it if they haven't yet." Right now many nurses went to  Haiti to rescue those who are in pain. So now you know Ana  that we are going to be Nurses an d this is what life had for us. I'm really proud that I"ll be helping people,

Another paragrapg that I liked was: "  I'm glad I took Earth science class because its very important. I saw how my understanding of earth science connects to this 2010 haiti earthquake." You are funny Ana!

Thanks for writing!

Dear Anna, Your post, "2010

Dear Anna,

Your post, "2010 Haiti Earthquake," interested me because I didn't have much knowledge of the effects of the earthquakes and you post explained it well. It showed how you used your Earth Science class to have the understanding of how bad the earthquake was.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: "The injuries just kept coming all day long—head injuries, people with multiple broken legs, people catatonic who couldn’t speak. Everybody is asking for medicine. You know, we don’t have basic—we don’t have Advil." I think this sad because it's hard to imagine the chaos and time pressure the hospitals would have been put under after the earthquake.

Another sentence that caught my attention was: "All of this makes me think about how lucky I'am to still be alive. Haiti gets these natural disasters alot. I have never experienced how it is to be in a earthquake and I dont want to.  I hope the survivors gets help and shelter." This stood out for me because I agree with it. After seeing all the destruction and the lives taken and all the people who are still alive and suffering, we can't help but to be thankful for what we have.

I do agree with you that the Haitians lost everything. One reason I say this is because they lost their homes and things which are essential for them to live everyday. Another reason I agree with you is it's going to take a long time for Haiti to restore itself.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because I like your thoughts on the Haiti earthquake and I like how you used to resources to help write your essay.
