9/11 Conspiricy

Discussion
Feb 8, 2011

So, I've begun the path to creating a reaserch paper in my AP english class. For my topic, I picked 9/11 conspiricy theories. I chose this topic because it has always intrigued me that so many people could feel such a huge distrust for their own government. I have yet to take a side on the discussion because I haven't read enough into it.

But so far I have learned a few interesting things on my quest for the truth. Possibly the most interesting thing I've read so far is about how different this conspiricy is. I mean, in most cases of conspiricy theory events, the theories start to pour out within a few days of the event in question. But with 9/11, most of the theories didn't come out until many months later. It was very odd because the theorists were just as shocked and appalled as the rest of the country.

I hope to learn a lot about the facts about the war in Iraq, George Bush Sn., the collapsing of the towers, and who Osama Bin Laden actually is. Hopefully I'll learn a lot about this crazy conspiricy.

Dear Skylar:

I am honestly confused by your post, "9/11 Conspiracy." But not because of what you've written, because what you have made me think of. There are too many conspiracy theories out there.

One sentence you wrote that stood out to me was: "I chose this topic because it has always intrigued me that so many people could feel such a huge distrust for their own government." This sentence really caught my eye because to be honest, there will always be a reason to distrust that which has so much power of you. The government is a power that which cannot be played with, and being human only means that you think you can run it better than the rest. Only you know what's good for you, why would you trust anyone else to go ahead and do things for you? Why would you believe anyone when your mind is frenzied and full of complicated thoughts and fears and confusion?

I am learning more about the 9/11 attacks and in particular what I am wondering about it whether or not this was only an attack from outside of the United States. I was researching this question online and this post caught my eye because it's obviously directly related to what I am looking for.

"The director of the original investigation stated that, "the towers really did amazingly well. The terrorist aircraft didn’t bring the buildings down; it was the fire which followed. It was proven that you could take out two thirds of the columns in a tower and the building would still stand."[269] The fires weakened the trusses supporting the floors, making the floors sag. The sagging floors pulled on the exterior steel columns causing the exterior columns to bow inward. With the damage to the core columns, the buckling exterior columns could no longer support the buildings, causing them to collapse. Additionally, the report found the towers' stairwells were not adequately reinforced to provide adequate emergency escape for people above the impact zones."

This quote I chose here is basically saying that the explosions of fire resulting from the plane crash could have definitely been high enough to have the rest of the building collapse on top of itself. It also says that the towers were not made for the type of impact it endured, which it should have been, and people above the impact zones were doomed from the start.

Based on this source I wouldn't be able to agree or disagree with the idea of conspiracy only because the simple fact is, I do not know what happened. Maybe we never will.

Thank you for your writing, it was enjoyable to see someone else looking into that after thought of "What if..." concerning September 11th.

9/11 conspiracy theories

There are conspiracy theories about everything. Maybe because some are true and some others are made because people just don't want to bear the truth. 9/11 is no different. Some people think Al Qaeda did bomb us and some people think we bombed ourselves just to have a reason to go to war. I do believe in several conspiracy theories but this one seemed far fetched. If there was a conspiracy theory, I think it would be leaked by now. Just like the Navy Seals killing OBL. One of the Seals wrote a book about it already and now everyone knows his name. Also, look at the US now. Our airports are very high tech with very good security and we have been on a hunt for Al Qaeda. And Khaled Shaikh Mohammed admitted to the 911 bombing when he was captured in 2003. All in all, some people think that there was a conspiracy, but that would be VERY hard maybe impossible. I think with this people are just scared of knowing the truth that Al Qaeda and maybe others hate us and hate our country. So people have made up conspiracy theories, but they are not true.
