Abandoning Sherlock Holmes

Discussion
Jan 24, 2012

I am recently abandoning the sherlock holmes for numerous reasons. For one it seems like the different adventures in this book constantly repeat themselves and the way Conan Doyle wrote was not to inviting. It grew boring at around the second adventure but I kept reading hoping it would soon get entertaining but unfortunately it did not. I usually enjoy these type of books but for some reasoning this book did not quite reach my expectations. Maybe it is was the way the book was written that made me deem this book boring. But either way I do not think I will read this book again for I hope there is another book that will meet my expectations.

Too much of a good thing, perhaps?

I and probably many others can easily sympathize with the problem you're having, Bradley. Often with novels, especially those in series and/or in the mystery genre, they can get easily repetitive over time, despite how good the first few books were. While it might take different amounts of time for different people, it is near-impossible for anyone to always enjoy reading endless amounts of installments. And, as you seemed to have noticed, Sherlock Holmes stories have that ridiculously complex and over-romanticized British style of writing, which makes each go-through even more unbearable. Therefore, I think you should consider yourself proud that you haven't become an addict to the Sherlock Holmes series, and found the willingness to quit reading the same, overdone content. Also, if you find yourself bored of reading complex mystery stories in general, perhaps you may want to take a look at a mindless action story (something I read too much of)or anything else that may provide you with a new, interesting perspective.
