Advice
Taking advice isn't always an easy thing to do- especially when its from your parents. Sure, they are older, wiser, and have more life experience, but often times, we pass off what they have to say as stupid or pointless. After interviewing my dad for an advice writing assignment, though, I realized that if I were to sit down an really listen to what my parents had to say more often, I may learn a valuable lesson and be better off because I didn't just hear what they said but I truly listened.
According to the dictionary, advice is an noun defined as:
Opinion about what could or should be done about a situation or problem; counsel

Now lets be completely honest, my dad has an opinion about pretty much everything. From what I should do when I wake up in the morning to what time I should go to bed at night, my dad has perpetual advice and a constant opinion, and, most of the time I just ignore what he is saying. However, when I explained to him that I needed to interview him for advice and asked if he had any I was surprised at what he had to say. He told me "Be happy."
Okay it sounds silly because someone telling me to "be happy" is something I have heard a million times. But, when my dad said this to me at a time when I was truly seeking out advice and listening to what he had to say, the piece of advice he gave was something that I took to heart. As easy as it may seem, being happy isn't always easy, but it is certainly something we should all try to do. My dad told me that I should do what makes me happy, surround myself with people that make me happy, and try new and exciting things because you only get to live once. He said that if I can do all of these things and do my very best to be truly happy, I will be able to live without regret.
Taking advice is not always easy and is something that often times we don't enjoy doing. But, if we could all just sit down for a minute and listen to what our elders have to say to us, we may just hear something that will make a huge impact on our lives.
