In
“Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston, there is a lot of
comparison between women and men throughout the whole story. This makes
me think about the difference that exists between women and men. I
think that men don’t show emotions and focus mainly on their own goals.
They are physically strong but not emotionally. Men usually tend to hide
their emotions. Women are brave with their emotions and are strong
enough to take the worst. Women show emotions but this is what makes
them move on.

Something
that caught my attention on page 17 was: “Ships at a distance have
every man’s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For
others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight….. Now,
women forget those things they don’t want to remember and remember
everything they don’t want to forget…” This is basically comparing the
way women act to the way men act towards situations in life. I think
that Zora Neal Hurston is trying to say that men go out for their goal
and don’t stop till they reach it. They don’t accept failure, while
women decide to move in. Women live more in reality, and are strong
enough to take a lot more in.

I
agree with this quote because I think that men usually want to be seen
as the strong ones and that is why they hide emotions. Men try to convey
the idea that they are invincible. I think that women do stick to
reality and that is what them stronger than men when it comes to
failure. Women tend to look forward and try their best to heal pain by
moving on.

On
chapter 3 there is a quote that stood out for me. It was: “She knew
that marriage did not make love, Janie’s first dream was dead, so she
became a woman.” This quote means that her dream was crushed when she
realized that marriage isn’t only about love. Woman usually always dream
of the big wedding and marrying that love of their lives but once
marriage comes they realize that it is more than just love. Janie became
a woman when she stop dreaming and woke up to reality to know that
marriage takes a lot of effort and there is so much to handle. I really
think this is right because girls don’t become women until reality hits
them and learn about what life really is about.
