Are we forgetting?

I remember my teacher told me "Why are people behaving so cruel to animals? -Are we forgetting that they're our friends?" This made me think a lot because animals are our friends! For example, dalmations help many fire-fighters. Many dogs help in war everyday. And many animals make great pets, which soon become our friends. So why is there so much animal cruelty in this world?
