To develop a working knowledge on the famous photographer Richard Avedon I first went to Wikipedia. Happily, i found a lot of information about Avedon's life and his timeline from picking up his first camera for navy portraits to shooting glamorous celebrities. Among all this i was most surprised to find how familiar Avedon's work was to me. Although the ad campaign was shot in 1980, Brooke Shields Calvin Klien jeans ad is still regarded as controversial. Fifteen year old Shields was captured in provocative poses with equally provocative one-liners. The man behind the iconic images? You guessed it, Richard Avedon. Another image that i had no idea Avedon was responsible for was Audrey Hepburn's face, her funny face to be specific. Made and used for the movie, Avedon shot just her eyebrows, eyes, nose and lips. He said that that was all you needed from Hepburn because she was so perfectly beautiful and classic. These are just two examples of the many iconic images Avedon has given the world, how many more are among us that we don't even realize?
