This weekend, the Judge baseball team went down to St. George to participate in the annual Little Caesar's Classic Tournament. It was an important tournament for the team: we have the talent to be a serious state contender, but we had yet to win a game at that point. That all changed once we reached St. George. In our first game against Springville, we played a great game, but lost 4-3. Despite the result, however, we were excited at where the team was headed. We played great defense, and the pitching was good. Our next game, though, was against Las Vegas High School, the preseason #5 team in the nation and a perennial power house. We knew we were in for a challenge when their first batter of the game hit a home run on the game's second pitch. But, despite the odds being stacked against us, we battled back and downed the giant with a score of 7-3. With a win finally beneath our sails, we prepared for our game the next day against West Lake High School. We came out hot that morning, scoring 11 runs in the first inning to take an early lead. West Lake battled back, however, cutting the score to 11-9 by the fourth inning. Just when it seemed like we would give up our lead, our bats came back alive and we scored eight more runs, winning the game 19-9. Our night game against Sky View didn't go quite as well, but despite losing the game, we still finished fourth in the tournament out of 16 teams. I think it is safe to say that`the tournament was a great success all around. We were able to elevate our game to the next level as a team, and we definitely inproved all around, just in time for region play to start.
