The Best Things in Life...

Discussion
Sep 1, 2011

Before I start to research where I want to go, I researched why I should go at all. What are the benefits of traveling? “The best things in life aren’t things,” claims a spokesperson for Austin-Lehan Travel Agency. Seeing the world gives the viewer two priceless gifts : experience and memories. The writer's claims are backed by a CNN report that stated “travel makes people happier than possessions.” From the experience and memories travel provides stems the most important gift of globe-trotting- a sense of being alive. When someone sees something they’ve never seen before, they feel more alive, more connected to the human experience.People who actually see the world first-hand are also less likely to be afraid of it, and more likely to enjoy it to the fullest.
It took a while to find an article that wasn’t just a blog about how great someone’s vacation was. It also took awhile to find the right wording to type into google. Once I found the right wording (travel benefits), I had to sort through the “about.com” articles, which I don’t consider to be a very good or unique source. Finally, I found a site that actually supported their opinions with research (even if it was done by some-one else).

You have great reasoning for why people should travel.  I especially like your comments stating that if people travel the world, they will be less afraid of the world.  Traveling is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Thanks for Commenting

Dear Cassandra,

I really enjoyed your comment beacause it was really nice to hear some feedback. The one sentance that really stood out for me is "if people travel the world, they will be less afreaid of the world". I thought this was a really concise way to sum up points.

Thanks for your writing, I look forward to what you write next.

I really enjoyed reading about this topic. Travelling is a great way to expound our boundaries (both physically and mentally) and I think you did a really great job explaining that.

What is the "human experience" though? Is it interaction or simply being?

Additionally, I thought it was really cool how you included why want to travel, not just where to travel- and that you are looking for more substance than things in your life.
