Boy Proof
During Advisory i was reading a book called, Boy Proof by Cecil Castellucci. It was a very interesting book. Don't take me wrong, i don't hate fantasy but i enjoy reading Realistic Fiction books about social issues. The book was about a girl who was "boy proof," this meant she wasn't an attraction to her opposite sex. The main character of the book was Victioria otherwise known as "Egg." Her father worked with special effects and her mother was an actress. Egg soon meets a guy that is in mostly all her classes and shares some of her hobbies. She starts to develops some feeling for this guy. Will she no longer be boy proof or will she be turned down and have her heart crushed? She considers herself "boy proof" because she is not very feminine and is trying not to be. That is her image. She has spiky red hair and many piercings. Her mom was soon to star in a movie that Egg is fascinated by. When Egg hears her mom would be starring in the movie, she wasn't so thrilled. One of her favorite actress' is the star of the movie. It was the real and only Egg. So Victoria was supposed to be with some group that was going to meet up there. The real Egg had made a snoddy remark about the fans that dressed up just like her. Although when Victoria was there she did not have her robe on to prove she was an Egg fan. She admired Egg from the heart. Hearing what Egg had said about her fans made Victoria rethink this whole thing. She quit wearing clothes that were just like Egg's. She wore normal clothes and was now a normal girl. She was then kicked out of her group in the newspaper because she had not given all the information that she had known aboyut her mom starring in a movie. Will she get her place in the newspaper back?
I personally thought this was a great book. It was interesting because it is about a teenage girl living a teenage life. At that point in life everything seems difficult. It is nice to see different stories, real or not, experiences that did, would, and could happen. You are able to see how some people live their teenage life. You get to see how her life is as an outcast, what people think of people like that. I do recommend this book because it has a nice point of view. You really get to understand what Victoria is thinking. You get the image of where she is and what is happening. So i do suggest you read Boy Proof by Cecil Castellucci.
