Casinos in Vegas and the Economy

    While walking through the Belagio in Las Vegas my dad said, "Look at all these people. It's like there is no economic problem in the country. Every one of them is wasting money." Why do people feel like they need to spend money on useless items when some people don't have homes? Why do they spend money on pointless games when they could donate it to charity and changes lifes? 

The gambling industry has long been considered "recession-proof," and casino executives were still touting that line as recently as the beginning of this year. In February, Las Vegas Sands Chief Operating Officer William Weidner Confidently declared that "one of the last things people want to do is stop enjoying themselves." -Hard Times in Sin City
