Time magazine wrote an article titled "Food That Lasts Forever" this article explores the possibility of food scientists being able to create foods and meals that have a shelf life of ten years. Already there is food that has a shelf life of three to five years that the troops consume. The benefits food scientists believe in making food with long shelf lives would create cheaper food to help feed our world of almost seven billion people. One of the most costly resources is food that has gone bad or is thrown out. By making food that lasts for years would mean that people would be able to go to the store less often and would also be able to buy the food at a cheaper price. Although there are many skeptics of scientist heating and compressing food to make it last longer I believe that the benefits are too good to throw away the idea. The media has been swarming with information about the health benefits of fresh foods and the concern of obesity in America. The health benefits or detriments of food with long shelf lives has not been openly discussed and as a skeptic I could see how these foods may have major health concerns. But then again not all people can afford fresh foods and packaged foods would provide a cheaper way for people to eat.
