Child Abuse and Neglect

I'm learning more about child abuse right now, and in particular what I'm wondering is: What are some warning signs of child abuse? As I was reading my Google Reader, an article, "Child Abuse and Neglect: warning signs of abuse and how to report it", www.helpguide.org/mental/child_abuse_physical_emotional_sexual_neglect.htm, caught my attention because it  adressed my question closely.

The quote I chose here is basically saying that even though not a lot of people would think of hurting a poor child, child abuse actually happens a lot. Also, it is up to us to put an end to it.

I think this is very true because even though to us normal people child abuse seems very horrible, there are some people that are sick in the mind. Because some of these people have kids, it is up to us to make sure that these children aren't abused. It makes me wonder just how messed up people are nowadays. Why would someone want to abuse a poor defenseless child?
