As a senior in high school, my college applications are finally completed and I'm beginning to narrow down my options to the final few. One of the factors that's beginning to make the biggest influence? Money. Since 1982, the cost of college has more than quadrupled. But in reality, has the value of education in that time even doubled? I was reading the above article in one of my dad's magazines the other day, and it brought up a lot of good points and good ideas. One of the things the article thinks we might be moving to is a lot of college classes being offered online. This could be beneficial because it would significantly cut the costs. However, I think that the negatives outweigh the positives in this situation. By getting rid of a classroom environment, we would be getting rid of discussions, time for questions, and the viewpoints of others. As hard as it is to get up for school some days, I would much rather learn in a classroom than take courses online. The value of money is much less than the value of an education.
