Cure for Alzheimer's
I just read a Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alzheimer%27s_disease
I was very interested in this article because my grandmother has Alzheimer's and I never really knew too much about it, besides that it affects a brain and memory, so I felt that the article was informing. There was a lot of information to process but I did come across a lot of things I didn’t know before. The article covered a range of topics that all talked about Alzheimer’s.
One sentence from this article that stands out for me is: “Two studies have shown that medical marijuana may be effective in inhibiting the progress of AD. The active ingredient in marijuana, THC, may prevent the formation of deposits in the brain associated with Alzheimer's disease." I think this is interesting because I knew that there were ways of slowing down the process of Alzheimer’s disease but I never knew that medical marijuana was actually an option.
I'm pretty sure this is accurate, because http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/mp060066m is a website that talks about the chemicals in marijuana and how it interacts with what is going on in the brain.
Another sentence that I agree with was: "People who engage in intellectual activities such as reading, playing board games, completing crossword puzzles, playing musical instruments, or regular social interaction show a reduced risk for Alzheimer's disease." This stood out for me because there are some simple things a person can do in order to prevent getting the disease. Everyone can do at least one of these things in everyday life and for people who do more it seems like they have less of a risk of getting Alzheimer’s.
I double-checked this fact through http://journals.lww.com/alzheimerjournal/pages/articleviewer.aspx?year=2..., which makes me feel pretty sure that it is true.
What I learned from this article is that Alzheimer’s cannot be stopped once it has started but there are a lot of simple ways to help a person who has it.
