Cursing in school?

I think you should be able to swear in school. Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be Catholic. All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment. Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out. This is why I think you should be able to swear (curse) in school.

Self control is important

Dear Eric:
I enjoyed your post "Cursing in School!?" because when i was in middle school i believed the same thing. Even though you said "All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment." Honestly I'm going to disagree though because now that I grew up and learned more, I realized that if you can't control the limit of your cursing in school then you won't have self control.

School is not the right time or place for cursing

Submitted by mistyp on Thu, 2011-12-08 11:21.

I believe that there is a time and place for everything! So I must disagree with your post because just because you curse when your upset or "frustrated" does not mean that it should be acceptable to cure all the time.

Honestly curing is a nasty habit that once started is hard to stop; so if you may control how and what you say from young you are already one step ahead of the rest. Although, school is a more relaxed setting that you may feel cursing is not so bad to do when your there.

Think about it. One day your going to be working and you can not just start cursing when you feel like it because it is unprofessional. How would you feel if your teacher did nothing but curse while teaching? Yes you will remember them but not for a positive reason.

So next time you go to curse in general think of how it makes you look and if you in the right setting to do so. As far as your statement, "All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment": Look around you really good and think about it yes you may have freedom of speech but what you say can actually hinder your progress in life because you will be looked upon as someone who is not educated or mature enough to find a better outlet for expressing yourself.

SELF EXPRESSION IS KEY TO ALMOST EVERYTHING IN LIFE; JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T THINK YOUR BEING JUDGED DOESN'T MEAN YOU AREN'T.

Dear Eric,

I kind of agree but then disagree with your post. To me it seems like if you curse alot and get in trouble for it, but then i agree with you because i even curse sometimes out of anger or maybe it slips out once in a blue.

One sentence you wrote that stood out for me was when you said "Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out." i believe you can stop cursing because there is a time and place for that. Also there are many different things you can do besides curse when you are frustrated like what I do is ask For the pass and walk in the hallway for a minute just to relax and trust me it really works.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because I found this topic interesting.

Disagree Totally

Dear Eric:

I Disagree on your post "Cursing in school"? because i don't think cursing looks good on your self or other. Don't get me wrong i do curse, but i try not to in school because it is not appropriate especially when you are surrounded of teachers who are well educated and your trying to reach a goal.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is "Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be catholic." My opinion is that it doesn't matter what religion you are from not only Catholics thinks is inappropriate to swear it is just a disrespect to your self and you can offend any one.

I don't agree with you that cursing in school should be a right thing to do instead of bad. Would you like your kids to swear in school and think is OK with that ? Cursing always have a bad vibe to what are you saying in anything you say it . Another reason i disagree with you is because school is a way to be successful and school is for education and good things to lead you in life and cursing (swearing) would not make you sound professional even as much as you angry there must be other ways to express your emotions.Am not saying cursing is a really really bad thing but it doesn't sound good in school .!

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, don't get me wrong is good for you to get other's opinion or to speak your thoughts or making a change is always a good thing.

Frustration has to go somewhere

Submitted by anao on Thu, 2011-12-08 12:13.

I agree with your post "cursing in school?" because it's true sometimes I'm so frustrated that I need to curse so that I could let it all out.

Some people might take their frustration out in some other ways but mine is cursing and sometimes teachers get me mad and I need to let my anger/frustration out some way.

You write: "Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be Catholic." They might get offended but they act like if they don't curse sometimes. I do agree with you in that because that's how I take my frustration out sometimes.

I don't agree

Submitted by britneypa on Thu, 2011-12-08 12:16.

Dear Eric,
I don't agree with your post "Cursing in school" because first of all some people may feel offended and it wouldn't be nice if someone cursed or swear right next to you thinking that they talking about you.I mean like if you need to blow out or just scream do it somewhere else not next to a person who might feel offended in a wrong way.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is "I think you should be able to swear in school." I think not because swearing is a harsh thing to do, and it may make you look bad in front of people you may care about you. Instead you should think before saying something and that may help you to say something better in the future.

Cursing = Bad person

Submitted by evelyns on Thu, 2011-12-08 13:37.

Dear Eric,

I disagree on your post, "Cursing in school?" because its not that you offend people but you are viewed as a rude person to others. It's also viewed as disrespect.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: "Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be Catholic." I disagree on this because people don't get offended because they are Catholic. I admit I used to curse a lot and my friends all wouldn't enjoyed talking to me because all of my sentences always had a curse word in it. So I'd see that the more I did it it wasn't fun, because my friends would go away. Cursing just makes you be viewed as a bad person.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because I hope you change your mind on what you think about cursing in school.

Dear Eric
I really didn't enjoy reading your post because you want people to be allowed to curse and say all this profanity when some people know for a fact they don't talk like that In there home so why do It over here In school and especially If It's to curs out a teacher because that's what teenagers are mostly doing cursing out teachers and not respecting them but I do agree with everyone having freedom of speech but you can't compare freedom of speech to cursing and say all this profanity because that's the wrong definition of freedom of speech

No cursing

Dear Eric

I disagree with your post because.Cursing in school is wrong an stupid there's not need for it if your mad vent someway else. That like letting teacher curs at you if they got mad at you for not showing up on time or didn't the lesson.I mean school is for learning its not that hard.

One sentence you wrote that stand out for me is:Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be catholic. Not only catholic people get offended buy other parents wont want there kids picking up on the groove of cursing in school

Your post reminds me of 8 year old's throwing fits because someone called them stupid.I look forward to another post thanks for writing.

Use music instead

Dear Eric:

I don't think you should be able to swear in school.

I think this because school isn't a place to swear or to hang out. It's a place to learn, do your work and go home.

One sentence that you wrote that stood out for me was "Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out."I believe there are other ways to let out frustration. Cursing, well I think it's stupid.

Like I curse but sometimes it just slips out. Or when I'm playing I'll curse. I think that would be a better reason other then being mad. Music is a better relaxer then cursing.

Peers, yes. Teachers, not so much.

Hey ERic

I agree that swearing should be aloud in school because like you said: "All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment." Why should someone be able to tell us what we can or can not say? Sometimes other people don't take your feelings into consideration when they say things so why should you?

I often curse in school mainly around my peers not so much my teachers just out of respect. I mean don't get me wrong theirs times i want to just curse out loud but i don't or i wait till i get out of the class room.

I believe that if your going to curse you should have a reason and not just saying it just because .Then it makes everyone think you cant act civil theirs days people should go without cursing because sometimes its unnecessary.

Well Luis thank you for this amazing paragraph you wrote on this situation because people do have freedom of speech and its often forgotten.

I enjoyed reading your discussion "Cursing in School" because it showed your opinion on whether we should or shouldn't be able to swear in school. Everyone is obligated to their own opinion but I disagree with how you feel. The reason I disagree is because school is a place of learning. While in school you should be speaking professionally and respectfully.

One sentence that stood out for me is: "All people have freedom of speech due to the first amendment." When you say that. it kind of shines a light on how you look at swearing in school. You should also take into consideration that there is a time and place for everything.

Once upon a time I used to swear in school and I started to notice how the teachers didn't respect that. I started to use other words and to strengthen my vocabulary.

Thanks for writing I really look forward to seeing what you write next because you got your point across point blank, no sugar coating.

Dear Fred

I agree with your post " Cursing in school ", because I'm the type of person that like to say whats on my mind & if i think i curse more than a sailor -_-.

One sentence you wrote that stood out for me was " Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out. " I think this is true because if you dont let out whats on your mind your gonna be mad the whole day & its good to let out your anger. Some people like to write it on paper but im one of those who like to swear out loud.

Thanks for your writing I enjoyed it & I look forward to the next post that you write.

I agree with you. I hate to admit it but I cuss alot and I got some of my friends to do it with me. Now these two dumb head girls say that me and my friend act up because we cuss. But we don't we're good students we get good grades.I like what you put about the 1st amendment and the 5th amendment the right to remain selient. I hava friend whos Catholic and she cusses sometimes. So what the big deal about cussing anyway. I can name 4 'bad' words that have more then one meaning other then their 'bad' meaning.

Dear Fred:
I enjoyed your post, "Cursing in school?," because you do give off some really good point, but I do disagree with some of your statements.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: " Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out." I think this is not true because I do believe that there is a time and place for everything. You will be in school and your principal and or teachers will want you to keep it professional.
Another sentence that stood out to me was: "All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment." This stood out for me because even though you do have the power to speak for yourself, there is a time for that and you should try making your speech a bit professional.
Your post reminds me of something that happened to me. One time I was walking in the hallway with my friends and one of them cursed. My principal went crazy and gave her 30 minutes of detention. After I thought about it, I do think she deserved it because we are in school and this is a place where you should keep it professional.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because you’re a good writer and I enjoyed your post.

Dear Frede:

I enjoyed your post, "Cursing in School?," because you have strong points but I disagree with your argument. I think that if we were allowed to curse in school it would makes us look more ignorant.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: "All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment. " I think this is valid statement you used a facts to back up your post. Even though we have freedom of speech we should use that in a respectful way not in a way that can hurt someone else or even show lack of intelligence which probably not the case.

Another sentence that I stood out was: "Also, some people can't help it, like if people are frustrated, sometimes they need to swear to let it out. ." This stood out for me because I sometimes feel as if I want to just burst out and starting many swear words, but then I tell myself to contain myself and keep it professional. You can’t get a point across if you are swearing at someone. They are just going to get mad and feel disrespected.

Your post reminds me of something. One time I was heading home on the bus with my friends when we saw some twelve talking together and they kept on cursing. It looked very unattractive and made them look naive

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because you sounds like you are a good writer and you know how to fight for what you want .

Cursing in school? REALLY?!

Submitted by concha on Fri, 2012-03-30 13:11.

Dear Frede:

Your post, "Cursing in School?" caught my attention right away. I like how you gave your honest opinion, but I disagree. I can see why you think people should curse in school, but school is for school. Not to be upset, but for learning. One sentence you wrote that caught my eye was, "Some people might be offended by the swearing because they might be Catholic." Religion can be one of the reasons people don't curse. I don't think that is the case though. Cursing isn't professional at all. There is a time and place for everything and school is defiantly NOT the place for cursing.

People have different "stages" of anger. Some examples are: punching a wall, cursing, yelling, listening to music, cry, etc. Like I said before there is a time and place for everything. If you're angry, try talking to a close friend or better yet, a counselor if you're comfortable enough. Personally, I keep my emotions to myself. I know it's not good, but I don't trust anyone enough to tell them what I'm going through.

I also think that cursing in school makes a person think you are not professional and very disrespectful. I know for sure nobody wants anyone to have a negative perspective about you. I know I wouldn't.

I wonder:
Do YOU curse in school?
If you do, please take my comment into consideration and save yourself a negative perspective from others and detention.

*I said detention because in my school, if we curse we get detention for half an hour*

Cursing in school

Submitted by JaniceP on Thu, 2012-09-13 22:28.

I definetly know how it feels when something goes really badly and you need an outlet. School is a very calm and controlled environment. There really is no way to let out your frustration unless you want to do some very angry jumping jacks or do some frustrated, angsty algebra. I think that swear words, in reality, are really just words. The words dont mean anything without the story behind it so the word "carrots" may be even more offensive than the f word. I'm not saying its ok because I've realized its a great way to excersize self control. However, there are some times when you have so much pent up inside that you need an outlet. Sometimes that leads to bullying or rebelling against teachers. Therefore, I think it would be best if the curse words were special word that you saved until the occasion really called for it. Curse words are one of those kinds of simple guilty pleasures that all people should experience, but the pleasure of it wears off very quickly when it becomes a common word. I feel like the risk of getting caught and the thrill of breaking the rules majorly add to those releases so even though they shouldnt let children curse too much, I do think that they should be the slightest more lax about language rules.

Inappropriate

Submitted by EricS56 on Fri, 2012-09-28 18:50.

When you said "I think you should be able to swear (curse) in school," are you meaning everyone, of all ages, in every school can curse each other? I think a child in elementary or middle school shouldn't swear, and it's a good thing my inquiry question doesn't talk about this.

Interesting Topic

Submitted by Michaeld on Sun, 2012-09-30 22:43.

I would've never thought to create a post about such a topic. I guess it never crossed my mind as my school doesn't regulate your language outside of the classroom, which brings me to my next point. I agree with your sentence,

"All people have freedom of speech due to the 1st amendment."

but you still have to remember that while you're at school, your elders have the last word and you need to respect them. If they believe that cussing is wrong, then don't do it in front of them. Yes, you could do it and then be sent to the office and use the 1st amendment as a reason for your speech, but in the end you'll still get in trouble. The topic was also a tad confusing as I wasn't sure if you meant cursing during class, or cursing in all of school. You might want to specify that if you write another blog similar to this one. Overall, interesting topic!
