What I'm good at

Task: create a game on Gamestar Mechanic

Audience: your fellow students

Requirements:
•    The game must be top-down (no gravity)
•    The game must have a goal block (player wins by reaching it)
•    The game must be accessible
•    The game must be challenging
•    The game must be entertaining

Constraints:
•    The game must be completed in 10 minutes
•    The game must not contain more than 5 kinds of sprites (including avatar and goal block)

How did you do?

The requirements and constraints did not really affect my activity because I know how to be creative with what i am given. The feedback said that it was creative but that i needed more time to add more blacks and enemies to make my game harder.

All the people that have tested my game say I followed all of the constraints and say that the only thing my agem could use is a little more challenge. I think one of the big constraints is that we could only use 5 sprites. Everyone said they liked the creativity in my game. My game was completed in under 20 seconds and I think this was a reasonable amount of time for my game since it was fairly easy and the player was able to beat it with ease.

i thought that the requirements and constraints limited my creativity. some of the comments said that the game should be more challenging and i couldn't do that due to the lack of wiggle room. if there was less constraints on the sprites, then i would have been able to make the game more challenging with another type of enamy sprite.

in today's game creating challenge, i believe i did well. I followed all requirements and also stayed within the contraints. My testers all say that they were pleased when playing my game and that i did follow all requirements and all contraints. They all had a fun time playing my game. It was accesible, challenging, and also entertaining. I myself when playing the game felt that it was well made and overall an enjoyable game.

I actually did really well. Im not sure how it worked out, the requirements, constraints, and time limit really limited my creativity but at the same time it made me strive to make it good in the little time and capabilities we had.

The requirements didn't have an affect on my creativity on game, I think that's pretty good the way it is now, but I need to make it more challenging. Steven said that he liked the fact that there was more places to win and so did Jude. Kevin said he liked level 2.

The requirements and contraints affected my game a little. My game over all i thought was challenging yet fun. It affected me in the away that i couldnt make the game more complex. I would have liked to make the game with more intresting blocks and make them different colors but because i couldnt use any more sprites i was unable to do that

My game that i created met all requirements and constraints. There were many technical difficulties when creating my game. I didnt have access to my tool bar to delete things and i also couldnt save or publish game. My computer also froze so when you refreshed the page the game dissapeared therefore i didnt get too much feedback because there was no game. It was difficult to stay within the requirements and constraints. I wanted to put different types of blocks but then i would have too many sprites.

Today I was able to create a game in GameStar Mechanic in ten minutes using a set of requirements and constraints. The requirements and constraints affected my creativity negatively, because I wasn’t able to do as much with the game as I would have like to. After receiving feedback from classmates, I learned that my game was too easy and should be made more challenging. I was also told that although the layout was good, I should improve it by making it harder to beat. The requirements and constraints put me under pressure to complete a game, so I don’t think that I was able to make it as good as I could have if I didn’t have the constraints.

Today I created a new game

Today I created a new game in Gamestar Mechanic. The requirements and constraints limited my creativity in that I was unable to put as many sprites in as I pleased. That was the only real hindrance that affected me, as I have not yet advanced far enough in Gamestar Mechanic to aquire many sprites which I would not have been allowed to use as a result of the requirements and constraints. Another result of this is that I was unable to publish my games, so others cannot see them. I need to get more practice playing games so that I can advance far enough to publish my games. My testers suggested that I add more enemies, though I didn't do that because of the constraint of having only 5 sprites. Without this requirement, I would have been able to make a much better game.

The constraint of having only 10 minutes to complete the game didn't give me enough time to set up everything in the game. I wasn't able to set up everyone of my sprites in the way I wanted it. The constraint of having only 5 sprites didn't really affect me much. According to my feedbacks, my game wasn't challenging and it was easy to win. I was also missing a sprite. They also suggested to me to add the shooting factor to my avatar.

The game I made was a platformer where the player controlled a an avatr hat can shoot and move at a normal distance. The only obstacles were stationary enemies who shot at you. IN order to win you had to collect a certain amount of points, kill a certain number of enemes, and then reach the goal block. The constraints greatly decreasedmy creativity because I was only able to use 5 blocks, and one was taken up for the player, and the otehr was neccessary and was the goal block. This left me with only 3 sprites that I could use to kae my game enjoyable and challenging.

I created a game called E-P-I-C in gamestar mechanic. In it, you must go through a maze while avoiding weird walking turrets and collecting points. The requirements/ constraints didn't affect me except for that I had to rush thru it.

The game that I had created in class actually went well. I got many great responses from the testers as well. All of  my testers stated that the game had met all of the requirements and it was fun because of the short time limit and the other obstacles as well. Another one of my tester said the game was amazing and made her pretty hyper. This made me feel great and accomplished!

Creating a game wasnt very difficult, but i could of made it more challenging if we had more time, 10 minutes wasn't enough to make my game fun and interesting. But oh well, either ways, i really like this unit so far and i can't wait to make an official hard game!

The people who played my game liked it a lot.  One of them was surprised at how much I could do in only ten minutes.  They found it fun and challenging.  They also thought I followed the rest of the contraints and requirements.

What they told me to fix was conflicting though.  One player said it was too hard because you only had one life, while the other said to make it harder.  I believe I can incorporate both though.  If I increase the health of the player, but add more enemies and make the level longer, it would give players insurance of they got hit, but they would still need skill to get through the enemies.

After that part of the class was over, I went back to my game and fixed it alot.  There were a lot of things that I saw that I could've fixed that the testers didn't see.  Some things were like the enemies movements, I wanted them a specific way and after they didn't to it, I learned the mistakes I made while changing the enemys' mechanics.  I have learned a lot about how to use gamestar mechanic, but it is really restictive as well.

Reflection:The requirements

Reflection:
The requirements and constraints limited my creativity. We all had a certain amount of time to create our game. We also could use only a certain amount of sprites to create a game. If we had more time I would have been able to think my game out more and add enemies like my testers. I would have also had more time to test my game and see what should be done. This would have made my game better according to my testers.

The requirements and constraints were very helpful in minimizing idling time. For the whole ten minutes, I was either working on my game or playing it to see whether it was too hard or too easy. However, I think that our creativity was limited by the time and constraints. This impeded me from having enough time to actually think about what would be the best position of the blocks or enemies. The testers believed that the game was slightly difficult though and this might have been fixed if there were enough time to test out the game before publishing it.

The requirements and constraints limited my creativity of the game. I was only allowed to use 5 sprites which did not allow me to use/make a fun and entertaining game. Although it limited the creativity the feedback that I received from testers were alright. Most os them said it was pretty easy to win and that I must make my game more challenging. I believe  that due to the 10 minute time of creating the game did not allow me to to fulfill the requirement of a challenging game.

I was not able to fully create my game but the concept that I was in the process of creating, provided chance, obstacles and a goal so I know that I was on the right track but I couldn't finish due to technical difficulties.

Design Challenge #1 Reflection - Ivan Pereda Tech 10-2

In this design challenge, I did well except for some things. All the requirements and constraints have been met but in the game, one of the enemy sprites were difficult to pass by/avoid. The game was very difficult to win and needed to be tested out before its available to any student. The game is accessible, challening and entertaining. The game was also completed in 10 min. and only 3 sprites were used. The game was also creative to my testers. Overall, this game went well.
