Determination Is The Key
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” This quote basically means that there would be times in life where people would try to bring you down, but if you pursue your dreams anything is possible. You don’t have to worry about what others have to say because at the end of the day your decisions can change your life. In other words as long as you’re courageous, determined, and independent you can be anything you want to be. I remember once I told my teacher that I wanted to become a surgeon and she told me that I would never make it that far in life. I was shocked by her comment because she’s always the first person to talk about how high her expectations are for me, and when I told her my purpose of being she just totally lost faith in me. That’s when I realized that in life there are always going to be people that are willing to bring you down, and those who are actually pushing you towards your dream by being such critics.
High School life so far has been fair. Sadly, I haven’t reached all of my expectations and it kind of sucks. I’ve managed to reach some expectations such as getting a 90% average for first marking period, and getting selecting to go on the AllianceBernstein trip with Ms.Diaz. As of now, I’m pretty much trying to follow the same steps I used back in first marking period. I’ll hand in all my homework on time, participate in class, stop talking to other students, and as a result get that 90% average. Failing three classes was the only “bad” thing that happened to me, but other then that everything is great.
My number one goal is to pass all my regents with high scores. If I pass the regents, I know for sure that I won't be attending summer school, and that I’ll graduate with an AP Diploma because of Geometry. However, in order for that to happen, I’ll have to spend some time of Facebook, and actually study without any distractions. I will also have to stay office hours more often, and pay more attention in class instead of laughing at jokes.
Overall, life is what you make out of it. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” So therefore, you have to be a person that is sure of what they’re doing, and be determined enough to follow your dreams without the opinion of others.
