DIY Wooden Letter Photo Gift
This post details the instructions for making a wooden letter photo collage. I made this for my friend Mikaela, so I chose a wooden letter M. In order to make this cute gift, you will need the following materials, shown in PHOTO 1: Mod-Podge (glossy or matte is up to you, I picked matte), the wooden letter of your choice (mine was white), a cute paper to use as the background (scrapbook paper is perfect),prints of the pictures you want to use (the size depends on the size of your letter), a paintbrush, scissors and/or an Exacto knife, a space to work on that can get messy (I'd recommend putting newspaper or the like down under your project).
First, I laid out the paper under my project so as not to make a mess. I then cut out pieces of my scrapbook paper to cover the letter; don't worry about matching the outline exactly, just cover the whole thing. Then, paint a layer of Mod-Podge onto the wooden letter. Place the pieces of paper onto the letter. When the paper is glued down and the Mod-Podge dry, flip the letter over and use an Exacto knife to trim along the outline of the letter to get rid of the excess paper. Paint another coat of Mod-Podge on top of the scrapbook paper and let dry. Next, decide how you want your photographs to be arranged, and cut them if necessary. I recommend laying out all of the photographs before gluing any of them. When you are satisfied with your arrangement, pick up the first photo and paint some Mod-Podge on the back. Place it back on the letter where you want it. Repeat this step with all the photographs until the whole letter is covered or all the desired photographs have been used. Then paint over all of the photographs with another layer of Mod-Podge, being careful not to knock them out of place. Allow this layer to dry and trim any excess paper or pieces of photographs overhanging the edges of the letter. Your present is ready! I wrote a note in Sharpie to my friend on the back with the year. Have fun giving these cute gifts to all your loved ones this holiday season!
