Earthquake and Tsunami

Recently in English class we’ve been studying about the crisis of Japan earthquake and tsunami.  At first I thought  it was not s big issue.  I thought Japan is an advance nation, and they will fight out the this earthquake and tsunami. When I read an wikipedia article, “ 2011 Sendai earthquake and tsunami”, I was really shocked by the number of people died and missing or injured.  Thousands of people are dead and couldn’t find fight the disaster. I started  thinking because I realized that Japan has nuclear weapons. First I thought that they wold get over it since its in a small village and won’t affect much. But if you see it now, its affecting very much. After doing this study, I realize that it doesn’t matter how ready Japan is for a war, but they were not prepare for this war with natural disasters.

One thing that I know for sure about the expending of the nuclear radiation will affect the millions. The radiation will cause people to face death and maybe spread diseases that will last for years.  Now I’ve studied my share of U.S.History and I believe that Japan has caused United States a lot of troubles back in 20th century. Personally, it’s funny to me how once upon a time U.S. government sent the Japanese to the internment camps, and now the government is rescuing people from Japan.

I did some research on the nuclear radiation and how bad it has gone. I came across this one article: “Japan cites radiation in milk, spinach near plant," (By SHINO YUASA and ERIC TALMADGE, Associated Press Sat Mar 19, 4:52 pm ET). This article provided a lot of information on the nuclear radiation. Some people felt that  nuclear radiation were just going to affect people and that’s all. But according to this article, it has gone into food and milk. “FUKUSHIMA, Japan – In the first sign that contamination from Japan's stricken nuclear complex had seeped into the food chain, officials said Saturday that radiation levels in spinach and milk from farms near the tsunami-crippled facility exceeded government safety limits.” This quote didn’t really surprise all that much, but it did make me feel upset. The radiation is out of control, its food and milk and who knows tomorrow its going to b in water too. How will these people survive? Imagine what will happen to those littler kids who wants milk?

In another source that I looked at, “Workers briefly abandon Japan plant after radiation surge," (Published on Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 10:05 Source : Reuters) there was this one statement that made me node my head in agreement with the writer. It was: “ Japan's chief government spokesman said it was "not realistic" to think the Daiichi nuclear plant in Fukushima, 240 kms (150 miles) north of Tokyo, would reach the start of a nuclear chain reaction, but said officials were talking to the US military about possible help.” This is so true, this crisis that Japan is witnessing is unrealistic. I mean no one ever imagined Japan being in this type of crisis. Like I believe, 2011 is not so peaceful year after all.

All of this makes me think that is 2012 really going to be end of the world? I mean this year really scary. I mean this Japan crisis has scared every human being in the world. Let’s see what other surprises we going to face/notice in this year of 2011.

Dear MShah,

I enjoyed your post " Japan Crisis" because coming from diferent backgrounds other cultures embracing others is a beautiful thing. The fact you took the time to reaserch these past few devestationg events in japan is marvelous and heart warming.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is "The radiation will cause people to face death and maybe spread diseases that will last for years" I think this is because I cant imagine us going back to an event that caused as many deaths as the war. Just the thought of this frightens me beond beliefe noone deserves this kind of koas.

Another sentence that i felt was breath taking was "All of this makes me think that is 2012 really going to be end of the world?" This stood out for me because sometime i believe and think the same thing.

Your post reminds me of something that happened to me. One time I had a paper i had to write about a country i was so foreign to it almost seemed alien. I grew to learn that you can sympathize with all races in times of sorrows and disaster. It helped me not only get a better geographicall  sense of the world and taught me there are bigger places out there it taought me we are all human.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because it was truelly heartwarming to see the effort put into your essay about another culture. It gives me hope that we are all in this world together. Good job on your post dude.

 Dear Asim, Im learning

 Dear Asim,

Im learning more about the disaster topic that is occuring in Japan. Recently there has been an earthquake and a tsunami that struck Japan and I am still wondering what is really going on and are they still looking for people that are being unaccounted for. I was researching this question online and this news item caught my attention. The article that I found is titled "Longing for her mother/ 4-yr-old girl pens heartbreaking letter to missing parent." By reading this news article it made me wonder how horrified this 4-yr- old girl is in watching her parents and her sister disappear right before her eyes. This 4-yr-old girl is still searching for her parents and she wish that they will be reunited again one day. In this news item, there was this quote that sparked my interest,

"Manami is one of the many children whose parents have died or remain unaccounted for since tsunami struck coastal towns in the Tohoku and Kanto regions 21 days ago. Children in the towns have been seen looking at the sea, apprently in the belief they will be reunited with their parents some day."

The quote that I chose was really meaningful. What the quote is trying to say is that many kids that were involved in the tsunami incident has lost their families. From them drifting away from their parents, they do not know what to do because these kids are so young. They have no shelter and no food at all and they are fighting to survive. If they are found, they would be taken care of, but they would cry everyday.
