Equal Pay For Women

Discussion
Oct 27, 2012

An issue that I find interesting during this election is equal pay for women. New reports have shown that women graduating from college/grad-school are worth less than men who have been educated equally. Today, most women earn about 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns. Why is this? If a women is educated in the same field as a man and is just as qualified as a man shouldn't she earn the same amount? NPR reports that one reason to this is because of gender discrimination. "Experimental evidence confirms that many people continue to hold biases against women in the workplace, especially those who work in traditionally male fields." Other things that NPR reports is that it is because women tend to not negotiate their salaries while men do. I find this topic very interesting and I'm interested in what the presidential candidates think of this topic.
