The Ethics of the Unborn

In my research paper, I am going to try to write objectively because I don't really know my own opinion on the subject.

Another reason I am going to try to write objectively is because according to my survey, there are many different opinions about the subject. I think if I were to initially take a side, it would cause people who believe differently to sort of "shut out" the information I am presenting.

I want to concentrate more on defining, providing various articles, and showing what is affecting them legally. I think the most important thing I have found so far that I want people to know about is related to my survey results.

I thought it was interesting how on questions like "Do you know anyone who has had an abortion," "should doctors be required to perform abortions," and "should women past menopause be allowed to use in vetro fertilization" all had a very split vote, with close results on all sides.

However, some questions people had more similar feelings about, like "do you believe abortions are ethically ok," "Do you believe in vetro fertilization is ok," "Do you believe using in vetro fertilization to make designer babies is ok," ect. I thought seeing the varied and similar results taught a lot about how sensitive of a subject matter it is.

It showed me that I need to treat it really carefully in my paper.

I think it would help your paper if you just gave a brief summary of what In Vetro Fertilization is, some people including my self may not know what that fertilization entails.

Erica, I really like this

Erica,
I really like this topic of your research paper. I feel like some people pass judgments instead of figuring out the facts before the choose which side they feel is the best fit. I agree with Josh about the clarification about vetro fertilization and other terms people may not know about. I hope this paper opens up peoples' minds to this subject!

Erica,
I like how you are approaching your topic objectively. With such a highly debated topic it is nice to have someone getting the facts out there, in an unbiased way.
Sincerely,

Erica, I thought in even

Erica, I thought in even describing your topic you were very neutral which I really liked. Your thoughts about "shutting out" any opinions is something very important to consider when writing about such a controversial topic. I am wondering though, how you are going to discuss articles and still stay neutral because usually writers are biased or are only conveying one side of the matter. Maybe if you have two opposing articles and discuss them by presenting one opinion and then the opposing one. I would be really interested to see your survey results sometime. Great work, I can't wait to hear more about your research!

Thanks for the comment!

Paige, Thanks for the comment. I thought the point you brought up about staying objective was very relevant. I was considering doing a paragraph on each side, using articles and arguments on each topic. I'll be sure to send you the survey results! Thank you for the idea about doing the two opposing articles, I think that is a really cool way to approach the subject that I can try! Thanks again!

Erica, I think your post is

Erica,
I think your post is very interesting! I think your topic is really interesting and I'm very interested in it. I think it's smart of you to initially speak objectively about abortion and vetro fertilization (and other topics) because I'm sure you have a lot of interesting and important things to say. I also like how you are going to talk about the generals about the unborn so that people are more informed before they form opinions, because when I've had conversations about abortion with people, sometimes they are ill informed and have opinions based on wrong information. I think it's great that you are researching this topic and I hope to read your paper!

Erica,
I think it is very smart that you decided to approach the topic of your research paper objectively. This topic can cause so many emotions to run rampant and I think that the only way someone can learn about it is to know the facts without them being conflicted by emotions. I have found myself to be conflicted over this and I am interested in what you come up with for your paper. One of the questions that I can't answer related to this topic is, When is the child considered to be "alive"? This is such a hard question to answer. I once did a project on stem cell research which relies on the undifferentiated cells of embryos for its research. Many people say that this is okay because the child is nothing but a ball of cells. If this is true, then at what point is the child a human being that needs to be protected? I hope that you can address this question in your paper.

Thanks for the post it really made me think more about a topic that is so widespread today,

Danielle
