Evoke Reflection: Weeks 4-7

Discussion
May 1, 2010

I'm an agent on Evoke, and my work on Evoke over the past four weeks (weeks 4-7) has beenmarvelous because I have learned more and more about money crisis, empowering women, urban resiliance and Indegous knowladge.

Empowering Women

I have been enjoying the graphic story these last four weeks, because I learned more about empowering women. I think that it is nice to now about the world problems women are going through such as woman trafficing. I'm learning more about Empowering Woman right now, and in particular what I wondering about about is: Why is Human Trafficking so important, and why does it relate to Woman's rights? I was researching this question online, and this new article caught my attention because it relates to my question and human trafficking is commonly found in woman cases. Human trafficking is a nation wide problem that needs to be solved.

"We have to act now in raising awareness in the whole of society, we have to act now with the determination to put an end to inhuman practices which turn people into merchandise, because human beings are not and cannot be for sale." The quote I chose here is basically saying the world should be more involved in stopping inhuman actions that affects the people all over the world. I also know why girls are constantly used for human trafficking, they rape and do horrible unorthodox actions to the girls. I think this is disgusting because people are being slaughter for their body parts. It makes me wonder how sick these people are. I don't know how people do that, woman should come together and fight against these horrid actions. I'm learning more about food security in Africa as well as New York right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is: why is food security a problem in New York City, the city that I live in. I was researching this question online, and this news article caught my attention because it shows how my community is suffering from food security. Food security affects the world and the people around us. "We need to make sure we're helping children and families who were hit the hardest by this economy,' Gillibrand said."The quote I chose here is basically saying that we as a country are suffering from hunger. This is very surprising because children and families are suffering and we should help them. The economy affected the rate of food security, because a lot of adults lost their jobs and now they cant afford to put food on the table. I think this is shocking because so many people lost their jobs in the last two years with the economic crisis that now, thousands of children and families are suffering. It makes me wonder how many people are suffering from hunger not only in the US or Africa, but the whole world. I found out that India is going through some food crisis and that many children are dying from hunger. I don't think this is an issue not many people think about. That's what makes me think. Recently, I've been spending some time playing the game Urgetn Evoke. This is a game in which you have to write about making a change. The goal of the game is to try to see the world in a better place. This is a goal easier said than done. Thinking and trying to imagine the furture is hard because the future is constantly changing. By the end of the game, if you are lucky enough to make to the end of mission 10, you are officialy an social inovator.

Blue Heart

My best quest over the past four weeks was the sixth one. This quest was knowledgable, because I now realize and understand the empowerment of women all over th world.  I wrote that it was unorthadox and inhuman for the women in Mexico who are being held in human trafficing. I am also aware of the "Blue Heart" campaign in Mexico and I think this is a good cause. I definatly support this cause.

My best mission in the past four weeks was Mission 6, RGENT EVOKE: Empowering Women which was about the empowerment of women all over the world. I think that people males preferable should understand the empowerment of women. It's was only till 100 years ago woman had the right to vote and the political and social problems and thats only in the US. All around the world women are still not treated equally than men and looked down upon.

The "learn" part of this mission was to choose a story from WomanWatch News Feed and write about how you can uncover newsworthy events from this project and how you can reach someone from the story for an interview or find similary projects relating to the story you've read.

As you can see in my blog post for this part of the mission, I learned that the woman Namibia are now given the opportunity to vote and have equal rights in government policies. I also find this inspiring because the US was one of the first countries to give women equal rights. Now slowely slowely more countries are giving women more rights and a say in government conflicts. Woman now can dream higher and be able to achieve them more easily.

The “act” part was to help empower one girl or woman with better access to education or economic opportunity. Make a small donation that can change another person's life forever. Again, please take a look at my blog post. For this challenge I'm going with my friends school, Bronx Science, to take part in the breast cancer walk this May. I find this very putlifitng because I now can make a difference in finding a cure for breast cancer for women everywhere. It's definalty going to be a life changing exprience, to know a woman is being cured from breast cancer. It's my turn to Act, you should too.

For “imagine” we were asked to imagine yourself as a woman or girl in 2020 empowered by your favorite Global Giving project and whats your life like in the future? Now take a look at my story for this task. What I like most about what I put up was that I can imagine myself in 10 years as the President of the USA and how Africa's economy is sky rocketing. They're so advanced and many people there are gaining money and not loosing money. This made me think about what kind of woman I am in the future and what I will do as my proffession, and who I'm married too.

In addition to putting work up on evoke, I have also been commenting on other agent's posts. Here are five examples of my comments.
