Exploring Portraits

Discussion
Sep 21, 2010

During the new digital photography year, I want to explore the world of portraits. When someone takes a photo of their friend, its more of a spontaneous action then a planned one. I want to see the difference between all the different types of portraits; whether they are candids (model, fun) or just taken on the spot. I also want to explore the difference between color portrats, and black and white ones. I want to see how elements such as location, make-up, fashion and season affect a portrait. A picture should be able to tell a story, but a portrait should be able to tell you about that person. By the end of the year I want to be able to take good portrait, but also know how to take one.

I really liked your portrait- your sister is adorable! Maybe you should do a theme to your photos, like nature or something. You did a really good job with yoru portrait because of the green-grass backrground, and how vivid the colors are. I wonder what it would be like if you took a photo of another person in the same spot, and see how it would turn on.

Did you use the flash in your photo, and what type of camera did you take it with, the image looks really clear.

Here's a photo that reminded me of yours:
