First Impressions of Catcher in the Rye

The book I chose from the AP list to read in class is The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. As I first start this novel i have high expectations. I hope that it will be as good as I have heard from so many of my elders. So far, i have only read into the first few chapters and I am so far hooked into the story line completely. I like the way the books starts with Holden Caulfield writing from a rest home in which he is currently residing for therapy. With this set in my mind, I know that this story isn't filled with too many happy and joyus moments. Being a sixteen-year-old boy, the two of us are very close in age and I am able to relate to what he is going through with school and with his life.I feel that by starting the book with Holden saying a fond farewell to Pencey Prep, it sets the tone that for the next few hundred pages what he will experience will be something completely new. I look forward to reading further and learning more about Holden Caulfield and what is in store for him.
