Go have a shower
My body is covered in filth
From the first layer of skin
that lays rested on my skull
confined to a prison of rough African hair.
My body is covered in filth.
To the tip of my toenails down
To the cracks of my callused feet
Given to me through the course adventure
of life…
My body is covered in filth
O how I wished to shower myself in the springs of
sanctity and security in an eternity of warmth
and comfort.
As I reached the springs there stood a radiant
man
without flaw nor blemish, Granting passage….
As I advance forward I realize more and more
How much I share the appearance of a savage
Poisoned by my filth I fell astray,
The springs were not where my fate lied
Why?
My body is covered in filth
Each scratch
Each scar
Each wound
Given to me in this life
Collectively, is my filth.
That same filth runs ramped through my blood
stream
As it flushes through my arteries being pumped by
a wounded heart
Waiting for that one person to rid me of the hurt
With no sign of purification… I wait
I wait for that one person to come and
cleanse me of the filth I bear
Many times I have tried to wash away my worries
Many times I have tried to wash away my troubles
But alone I am unable to wash away the bad
Without the good
She is my good
She hands me her heart and says
“Go have a shower"
