Haiti Earthquake Impact

Looking over some of the most important events that have taken place in our recent history, I think that one of the most important ones that stands out is the Haiti earthquake that took place in 2010. In one of the world's least developed countries, a more devastating event couldn't have possibly taken place.The earthquake struck in January of 2010 and destroyed a nation that didn't have very much in the first place. It toppled schools, crushed roads, and ruined buildings. Several months later, the catastrophe led to a November outbreak of cholera that killed more than 2,100 people and triggered protests by Haitians who accused the United Nations of bringing the disease inside their borders. More than eight months after the earthquake occurred, only 5.2% of the rubble has been cleared. Even today, the country is still in a rebuilding phase, and it will take several more years before the country can return to how things once were.
In terms of natural disasters that have hit our world in recent times, Haiti is one of the worst. It's also easy for people in our country to ignore though, because it's not directly affecting the people in our country. However, I think it's a very important thing for people to be aware of, even now that it's a few years after the event has taken place, because the people of Haiti still have not recovered from it.
