Happiness Is Inevitable - Their Eyes Were Watching God: PART 6
Chapters 1 to 9 was all very interesting. In this book called, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, a lot of unexpected events take place. From her definition to being a women, to running off with a man met on the roads. This man soon became a boring toy for Janie and Janie started to seek a new toy to keep her entertained. But, before she finds herself a new toy, she finds herself at the death bed of her second husband. After all this, we see her in her shop again and this time, infront of a young man who accidently appeared in her shop.
"He set it up and began to show her and she found herself glowing inside. Somebody wanted her to play. Somebody thought it natural for her to play. That was even nice. She looked him over and got little thrills from every one of his good points. Those full, lazy eyes with the lashes curling sharply away like drawn scimitars. The lean, over-padded shoulders and narrow waist. Even nice!"
This is her thoughts while he came in and sat down. She has found her new toy and is very glad of it. This man is named, Tea Cake, but his real name is Vergible Wood. He is a tall young man and he was also interested in her as she is to him. Knowing these two facts, we should all have a feeling that she would most definitly hook up with him. It is inevitable.
"Janie awoke next morning by feeling Tea Cake almost kissing her breath away. Holding her and caressing her as if he feared she might escape his gasp and fly away. Then he must dress hurriedly and get to his job on time. He wouldn't let her get him any breakfast at asll. He wanted her to get her rest. He made her stay where she was. In her heart she wanted to get his breakfast for him. But she stayed in bed long after he was gone"
To me this seems like the point in life where she can finally take a deep breath and calm down. She knows that making breakfast is the best thing for her to do for Tea Cakes but she knows that he cares for her. So instead of listening to her heart, she listened to Tea Cake's heart and took his advice. Let the man of the relationship, once again, take control of her life.
And from the end of chapter 12, Janie sure seem pleased with her new life. A new start on her dream that she told us in the beginning. The one before she threw away and became a women. The one where she knows that being married is the meaning of love and affection towards one another.
