Hazing
Last Thursday our school had an assembly for two major reasons. One, to remember a beloved graduate, Michael Starks and two, to gain more knowledge on the world of hazing. On November 21, 2008 Michael died due to hazing and his family wanted us, his classmates to know the truth about hazing. Hazing is a test and a task involving harassment, abuse, and humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a gang, club, military organization or other group. This is very common in the Greek system at Universities. These tasks at universities usually involve excessive amounts of something, like alcohol that puts heavy amounts of strain on your body. Hazing has been known to hurt and kill people, but that hasn't slowed down the ritualistic act. It is a psychological procedure used to break people down until they are nothing. Hazing is a demeaning act that people involve themselves in to feel welcomed and apart of something. Hazing is getting out of control and needs to come to an end.
