How Can Our Senses Act as a Window on the World?
If people were to open their eyes and embrace what occurs around them, the world would seem much simpler than it already is. Using our senses can benefit us in many ways when trying to analyze the world and how it functions. Without having personal experience, an individual can not truly comprehend a regional junction. With the need of individual acquaintance in my mind,
I set off on a journey to Occupy Wall Street not too long ago. While I was there, I unlocked my chambered senses and soon became fond of what was going on in that area at the moment. While standing around and observing the people and objects, I began to feel a distinctive impulse surge throughout the barriers of my sense receptors. The smell of old people and unwashed clothing lead me to believe that there were dirty individuals within the premises. It was a specific stench that I can almost taste; the essence permeated throughout the air and implanted itself onto my taste buds.
Along with the use of my sense of scent and taste were the sounds I heard. Though there were only a few sudden sparks of noises, Zuccotti Park was fairly similar to a library; everything was subtle but somehow you could feel the intensity through the quiet riot. After it was clear to me that there were no loud disagreements occurring, my eyes struck upon the unique residents and tented areas in the park. The trait of those who participated in the protest varied heavily because of age difference, financial dissimilarity, and façade contrariety.
Combining all of my inquired information based off of my senses created a metaphorical window that displayed life through different perceptions. It seems that I am a part of the minority that gains information through experience; a writer from The New York Times, Jeffery D. Sachs, has stated his point of view on OWS with a couple of significant supporting facts. However, all of his data and interpretations do not include the reciting of sense experience but do convey a good statement. In his text, he asserts that he believes that there is a revolution happening at this very moment and he has proof for it. The Great Depression is a similar example that can be juxtaposed against what is happening in OWS. He discusses The New Deal that was used to settle the financial debate somehow, but that involved a restart in the format of the economy.
This renewing was a sort of revolution that is similar to what can be used to create the new found revolution in OWS. With all of that information kept in mind, his claim seems to be accurate, however you cannot connect on a personal level due to no proof of personal experience that supports his clain of a revolution. Without this data, he cannot determine whether or not if the readers can fully committ to his word. You need a window on the world that produces sense experience in order to obtain absolute truth and or information.
