How would the person would so much of gaining when they're dealing with their own self-esteem, how would they even have time to think about what they could gain from others?
I disagree with this statement, not everyone is greedy for more, others ask for more because they have nothing. It is very cruel to turn down those that needs you, because nobody will be there for you when you need help. This passage is not exactly giving the right impression of those friends with low-esteem.

Self-esteem: Very often a “taker” friend will have low self-esteem and needs you to bolster it. They may have very few friends so you feel pressure to be there for them, especially if you are a long-standing friend.

The problem is the more you give, the more they take.
