Hello my name is Ashley Vasquez. I am 18 years old and i live in Bronx, NY. I was born on December 17th 1993, to a Puerto Rican mother and father at Eienstein Hospital. I am an outgoing person and I love adventure. I am the type of person that can't be sitting down doing nothing all day, I need to be active. I am currently a senior at Bronx high school for the visual arts. A major turning point in my life would be when I got a phone call at 430 one Friday morning in June 2010 telling me that my Bronx apartment cought on fire. All I thought about was if my mother and dog was alright. Thankfully they came out unharmed, at that moment I realized that you shouldnt take life for granted. I don't know what I would have done if I lost my mother that morning, material things lost that night could be replaced but nothing would be able to replace losing a loved one.
My high school experience has been different from others because I've been to three different high schools in 4 years. I went from catholic school for freshment through junior year, then I decided to attend a public school for senior. Coming in as a senior is a challenge, this was my first time in an public high school and I had to get accustumbed to how this school was ran prior to how catholic schools are ran. Extra curricular activities im apart of is an NYPD explorer program I attend at the 45th precienct in the Bronx, which I attend every Wednesday and Friday. School has never really been my favorite but I try hard to succeed and finish so I can graduate this June and go on to the college of my choice to later become an NYPD officer.
When I'm not in school I like to spend as much time with my family as possible. I enjoy going to the movies or just even staying in with my family because you never know if you or someone else close to you is going to be gone the next day. Going through that tragic fire experience made me realize I should value family time more. Im not saying I spend every day with them, I just spend more time then I used to. When I'm not with my family I'm usually out with my close friends enjoying being a teenager, having fun enjoying life.
