Japan's children longing for hope
In class we read stories about what the children went thought in Japan during the earthquake. I couldn’t believe that some kids had to walk miles to get home or didn’t go home at all. I read two stories that I believed was the most heart breaking. The first on was from the International School of the Sacred Heart and the girl who wrote it was named Ashita K. She was in school when the earthquake happened. When it was over she realized that no one could pick her up and had to spend the night at school. Her dad finally picked her up the next day and she had to walk 8 km to her home. I think that she must have been scared and tired because of the earthqake and the long 8 km walk. She probably didnt’t know what her future would be like after such a devastating event. The other story that I read was from the same school and the girl who wrote this was named Erika Dalton.
She was also in school during the earthquake. Her mother came to pick her up and they traveled home after her siblilings had been picked up as well. She was very worried about her father because at the time of the earthquake, he was at work and no one had heard from him since. Erika forgot about the earthquake and was only concerned about her fathers safety. I think that a girl who had just been through a earthquake, forgetting about it, and only thinking about her father is sweet. From the stories that I read, I know that many children were calm during the event and knew what to do to keep themselves safe. They also were able to put the earthquake aside to thinkk about their family’s safety.
