Killing Lincoln By- Bill O'Reily and Martin Dugard
I just finished reading the book "Killing Lincoln" by Bill O'Reily and Martin Dugard. Having read a Lincoln book before, I knew the types of knowledge and information surrounding Lincoln. However the title is slightly deceiving, as it was not just about Lincoln's assassination and who killed him. This novel touches on a variety of subjects regarding Lincoln, ranging from his years as a senator, to the Civil War, to what he did during his presidency. However what I liked about the book was all these different topics were put into sections. For example, if the topic was about the Civil War, the entire section would be about the Civil War, what caused it, important battles, and historical figures. I think that I learned just as much about the Civil War in this book, as I did about Lincoln. Two guys that I learned a lot about was General Lee and General Grant. Both Generals were participants in the war, one fought for the Confederates and the other fought for the Union. Each man made significant contributions to the war, however General grant prevailed, and eventually became the 18th president of the United States.
I thought that it was interesting was to see/read the perspectives of these two men. Bill O'Reily is a respected journalist, author, and political commentator. Although some people do not agree with him and his politics, I liked to hear what his views were on the subject.
Although I was not familiar with Martin Dugard and his work, however he is a New York Times bestseller. I thought that he added a nice touch to the novel.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Lincoln, or is interested in United States history. I received this book as a gift, and I am glad I got it. This is a MUST READ.
