Kony 2012, What do you think?
Something that I have been interested in learning more about has been the conflict going on throughout Africa, the leader Joseph Kony; has been sending troops to recruit kids, these kids are then mistreated and trained to become dangerous soldiers. I remember my math teacher speaking about it in 8Th grade and showing us a movie about it, but I wasn’t interested in the topic as much as I am now. Lately, the issue has caught my eye again. I know that some may feel that this is very sad and depressing, and want to help, but some feel that the United States shouldn’t get involved to avoid a war. From what I’ve heard, guy Joseph Kony has became number one on the list of warlords. For example he has been recruiting kids just to keep his power, not because he’s trying to do anything important. Now that's just what I've heard, it may or may not be true.
One thing that I know for sure about Joseph Kony is that he’s been recruiting kids to train them and build up militarism in Africa. Now, I’ve studied my share for history, and this is really disturbing what he does with the kids, which is that he messes up their faces. Personally, It's funny to me how most people think that this is all a lie. Some have been saying that Kony hasn’t attacked anyone in a long time or hasn’t been seen in a while and things of that nature, this has made many people think that Joseph Kony isn’t alive and that this is all feigned.
The issue in Africa with Joseph Kony was not as important as in today’s date, people knew about the conflict but people weren’t as interested, Until a man created an organization all around the United States, to support people in Africa. After this organization being created people started spreading the idea of making Kony famous around and that’s why it has became a bigger issue.
Being that I didn't have a lot of background information on Joseph Kony, I chose to do some research on the topic. As I searched for blogs and news articles on Google, I came across this one article:”Another town in Africa – “Lira” http://kabiza.com/Lira-Children-Kony-Rebels.htm .” This article provided a lot of information and opinions on Kony. Some people felt that in the United States a kid goes missing, and the police start doing their job, looking for the kid, and news start showing pictures of the missing kid and the abductor. The news goes into the media and people receive it, but across the world there’s about 30,000 children that have been abducted in the past 20 some years and no one has done or said anything about it. “War in itself is bad, but this conflict has been going on for 18 years with no resolve in sight. This war is hellish in that the Joseph Kony’s army recruits its soldiers from the villages and schools of northern Uganda through abductions.” This statement didn't really surprise me all that much, but it did make me feel bad to those who live in Africa, because the problem has been going on for 18 years and it’s very hard for one to go around trying to hide and survive from The Lord’s Resistance Army, which is the name of the army led by Joseph Kony.
In another article: How a plan to make Joseph Kony famous changed our world Read more:http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/03/09/how-plan-to-make-joseph-kony-famous-changed-our-world/#ixzz1p9gbM8BX there was this one statement that made me nod my head in agreement with the writer. It was “ The strategy: Make Joseph Kony famous around the world and then provide Uganda with the resources to wipe out this blight on their country.” This is so true because it’s a great way to avoid a war, also its a good way to end this because who would’ve thought that Kony is a benefactor.
All of this makes me think that The Lord’s Resistance Army will go down sooner or later, because I feel like the US has gained a lot of supporters, who are willing to end this. and how the article read, the US are going to support the people suffering from Kony’s rules by giving them what’s going to be needed.
