In the book "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks I have read up to page one hundred and forty-four. So far, a girl named Veronica "Ronnie" is a rebellious teenager due to the fact that her father had left her and her brother Jonah when they were younger because of issues he is having with his wife Kim. So far, the blame seems to be headed towards Steve ( the father ) for leaving but shows no sign of why he did leave. He discusses the importance of space he needed to free himself from the issues he was encountering that hurt him. The divorce had set him off and so he left back to his summer house in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. It has been three years that Ronnie and Jonah had not seen Steve and Ronnie was being stubborn and ignored Steve's calls and letters he'd written her. Once Kim had driven Ronnie and Jonah to Steve's house to visit for the rest of the Summer, Ronnie ran off declining his fathers warm welcome. Ronnie has had a bit of a criminal record where she shoplifted and she is now trying her hardest so that she does not go on probation if another incident occurs. Along the way, she meets Will and their first encounter had been when he was playing volleyball and slammed into Ronnie knocking over her soda, drenching her shirt. What brings them together is when Steve finds sea turtles by his house and there are raccoons lurking in the dark and she calls the Aquarium so that they take care of the situation which only brought Will to the site of the turtles. They spent the night together getting to know each other and they both felt something connect even when they weren't each other's type of people that they'd date. Ronnie makes a friend named Galadriel a.k.a. Blaze. Blaze is a lot like her, rebellious, has numerous problems with her family and boyfriend and can't find herself to let go of her horrid boyfriend Marcus because he is the only one who was there for her when no one else was. Blaze noticed Marcus flirting with Ronnie whilst he was drinking excessively and in revenge, she slips CD's and forty-fives in Ronnie's purse and she was caught shoplifting. Ronnie tries confronting Blaze but she refuses to admit to her faults. Ronnie finds herself spending a lot of time with Will and she soon realizes that Steve wants only the best for her and they reconcilliate after he tells her that he believes she did not steal anything from the store.

Oh I thought the book was wonderful! The movie, not so much. I'd have to say there could have been a better approach to their choices in roles but the setting they chose was incredible! :)

In the book, I mentioned how Ronnie and Will have been beginning to spend a lot of time together and this seems to have become a daily routine through out the summer for them. Ronnie encounters a situation where one of Wills ex-girlfriends explain that he goes by a game with girls and that she is just merely another one of those girls. Will waits for Ronnie and explains how she is different and he tried finding happiness by dating all those girls but never found it until he met her. Refusing to respond to Will, he sets off annoyed by the fact that she'd made him wait outside for a good few hours until she came out and talked to him about what had happened.
A quote I thought to be significant was .." 'I thought you were different. I just thought...' He stared at her, his face a mixture of anger and disappointment, before suddenly turning away and heading for the beach. 'Hell, I don't know what I thought,' he tossed over his shoulder."
This quote struck me as a very significant part in the book so far because it shows his struggle in finding the right girl for him and he tries to find a happiness he is longing for. Something seems to be setting him right back down from find it and it shows that it could be a past event that occurred that is now tormenting him. We just haven't figured out what that might be so far in the book.

In the book " The Last Song" I have now read up to page two hundred and seventy three and Ronnie has talked to Will and there was a reestablishing of cordial relations between them when she had apologized to him for doing what she had done. She admitted to listening to Ashleys provocative claims about Will which had made her think wrongly of Will. She realized how wrong she had been to shut Will out and make him wait for her for hours until she finally opened up and talked to him but yet again she refused to talk. So one morning she heads out to his brake shop to apologize and they began to hang out and go back to what it had been before the incident.
Because Blaze was jealous that her boyfriend Marcus, also a bad influence, liked Ronnie or seemed to take interest in her Blaze slipped some items from the store into her bag. Now, Ronnie is being faced with charges made by the owner of the store. She tries talking it out with Blaze but she can't come clean and tell the truth because Marcus is holding her back. Ronnie invites Will to a dinner with her family but in the course of doing so, Will asks to go to his house to change. In the meantime, Ronnie meets Susan who is Wills Mom and notices how she is disapproving of Ronnie. Upset, she asks Will and he tells her of how his little brother died in an accident and they made bracelets both Will and his sister in memory of him. Scott had saved their lives but unfortunately not his little brothers. The problem is that Ronnies father Steve is making the window for the church that was burnt down and they blamed Steve for it. However, Will believes that it was him & Scott who did it when they launched a rocket ship that ever landed assuming it was the cause of the fire. Will is too afraid to tell Ronnie the truth and can't because Scott helped save him and his mother from the accident and he needed to return the favor.
Will's sister Megan is having a wedding and they invited Ronnie but she refuses to go since she does not have a gown. So, her brother Jonah lends her money he collected and she attends the wedding not knowing anyone but Will, Ashley, her friend Cassie and Scott.

An important quote in the book I thought was interesting was " A he played, he coughed once, then again, before stopping the song. He coughed some mroe, the sound thik and mucousy, and when it continued unabated, she broke into a run to reach him. 'Dad?' she cried. 'Are you okay?'"
This quote is significant because little signs like these that keep arising bring me suspicious that he may be sick or unwell. As aging occurs he gets weaker and weaker also through out Ronnies visit to her Dad's.

At this time in the book, it is discovered that Ronnie's father has terminal stomach cancer when Ronnie, Will, and Jonah are watching the turtles in his backyard hatching. Soon after, Steve goes off to cough and Ronnie rushes over to realize he is coughing out blood. After arriving to the hospital, she finds out about his illness and demands to know when he's had it since. Ronnie learns that he has had it since about the beginning of the year and he hid it from them. It had been hurting only recently and the way he got his mind off of the pain was by playing piano in which he had isolated from his house because Ronnie demanded it to be so. All in all, Ronnie, Steve, Jonah and Will are going through a lot as Steve tries to recover.
Will feels bad for hiding a secret from Ronnie that he had caused the fire in the church, not Steve. So he tells Ronnie and she shuts him down for not coming out and telling the truth. Afterwards, Blaze realizes the mistake she's made and tells Ronnie that they will be dropping all charges for shoplifting held on Ronnie. Blaze also tells Ronnie that Marcus and his crew are in fact, the people behind the fire that started in the church. They gave the illusion that the bottle rocket launched by Scott and Will was the source but in reality, Marcus played a game and threw a fireball and caused the fire himself.
After shutting down Will, Ronnie realizes the mistake that she's made and she tries calling Will before he leaves for college in a few days.

At this time in " The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks, I have reached the ending of the book and I would first off like to say that the ending was truly enticing and I recommend this book to many young adults and teenagers from ages thirteen and up. I give this book a 3.5 out of five as a rating because I feel as though this book wasn't as sophisticated as I would've liked it to be. In my eyes, this book could've been more interesting if the simplicity wasn't so much overpowering or maybe some sort of morbid twist in the plot that one might've not expected would've made this book receive a higher rating.
At this time in the book, Ronnie decides to stay with her father trying to help him recover if he can, that is. Jonah wants to stay but he is inclined to start school while Ronnie can postpone her audition to Julliard since her father was close with the board. After a while, Steven dies in a peaceful sleep and the is a funeral service in which many attend, even Will's mother. They find out that there was a grand contribution to finish the church and Ronnie figured it was by Will who had indeed asked his Dad to do so. Finally, Susan opens up to Ronnie at the funeral and tells her that someone is waiting outside for her. It is Will. Shocked, they approach each other and he gives her his condolences and she apologizes for her mis-doings and they reconcile. He says that he will visit her as often as he can and they part. After her audition at Julliard, she is practicing in a room at Julliard and her phone suddenly rings and it's Will. He tells her that he just got off the plane and she soon realizes that he is standing at the door surprising her. She is excited for their future and hopes for a great life beside the one she loves, Will.

An important quote in "The Last Song" is "Surprising her, Susan was first to speak. ' I'm sorry for your loss. Pastor Harris told us your father was a wonderful man.' 'Thank you' she said. She looked from one of Will's parents to the other and smiled. ' I appretiate that you came. I also want to thank you both for what you did for the church. It was really important to my dad.'"
This quote is significant because it shows how Susan warms up to Ronnie and how they even donated to the church which was a big jump.

The description was for the book, not the movie. Movies don't usually follow the outline of the book so I suppose you're right. But thank you so much!
