What I'm good at

Hunger by Lan Samantha Chang.Ming Hwang stepped first to see the eastern Iowa hills. He felt overwhelmed and joy to be there to reach America and fufill his destiny. They all had to learn English and stop speaking Chinese as often as usual. They all needed to study hard and some struggled and many new things are going on. Many new things are going on and a lot of people are learning new experiences.

I am liking Hunger, by Lan Samantha Chang because it is good to learn something new and to learn new experiences and also finally the guy gets to see America and fufills his destiny. An example of what I mean is on page 134.  "He felt overwhelmed aas if he had arrived once more at the sea that he had crossed to reach America and his destiny lay again." I think this is interesting because it is a really good thing that he is fufilling his destiny and that he had reached America again and it is a new thing for him to see and everything and learn about.

One of the big ideas or themes in this book is experience. You can see this on page 137 where it says: "Do you understand why we need to learn English." As you can see Chang wants us to think about how important English is and that how they cant always speak Chinese and that they need to learn a new language and since they are in America the main langauge is English which they have to learn.

This theme in Hunger reminds me of something of something I saw in Youth Voices. DEncarnacion posted "Blacks Attack" http://youthvoices.net/node/8174. This really stood out for me because this post was really interesting and that the people experienced something they havent experienced before. Some black people were jumping some other people and stuff and that is so wrong. People jump people for no reason and what is the point to jumping others?

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book because I am almost done with this book and it is really interesting. It is also really nice that they are learning a new language and learning a new language is not easy. What's probably going to happen next is that their mother passes away at the end of the book and her spirits are chanted and lifted to a safe passage. People were crying and they never got to see their mother again and Emily just cried and cried everyday wanting her mother back. Emily would remember everything her mother done for her and how she took care of her. They had a huge cermony and her mother lived in peace.

People move, people change. We can't be one kind forever. To me I think hunger was a book that taught appreciation.
