Recently, I am thinking about the love stories I read previously. Those stories made me feel sigh because not everyone is lucky that they can decide on their own marriage and the being with the one they like.

I am interesting in "American Dragons", by Laurence Yep because there are many impressive stories in it. Also, it often reminds some of the incidents I involved and some situations I experienced. As I start to read the new story, the topic - "There's No Reason to Get Romantic," made me feel sad and I think it would be something bad in the story. However, I am looking forward to read it. "And looked away before she could see my mouth pull down at the corners, the way it always does when she talks to me like that." This line showed that Laurence wants to tell more about the relationships between children and parents.

One of the big ideas or themes in this book is the love between mothers, daughters and grandmothers. You can see this on P. 185-198 where it says: "You must be productive, you must not spend all your time shopping and sleeping, there's no use crying over split milk." I think everyone should hear this similar speech before. However, most of the people always hear this speech, but only some of them realize it and do it by action. For me, I think it is a meaningful quote that it motivates me to do work. And let me understand the consequences if I waste time to do something unnecessary.

This theme in "American Dragons" reminds me of something important in my life. My grandmother always had a long and boring speech with me. She often talked about her past. I felt interested for the first time I heard it, but later on, I found it was boring and annoying. However, after I come to US, I lose the chances talking with her, because she is now staying in Hong Kong. I feel ashamed that I don't put enough concern on my grandmother's speech. Although it was boring, I can learn a lot from her experiences and lessons she learned when she was young. And what I learned is that, youngsters should hear and concern on what elderly said, because it helps us a lot and we can avoid doing the wrong thing.

I am looking forward to reading what happen to the rest of the story and I want to know if there would be any things bad happen as I thought, or just talk about the relationship between mother, daughter and grandmother...etc.
