The book that I am reading is called Flowers for Algernon. It is written by Daniel Keyes and is about a guy named Charlie Gordon who is mentally retarded. Since he was born, intellectually he has been behind then the rest of his classmates and was taken out of school in order to be put in a special school. Not being able to have the same level of education, he is taunted and made fun of by the other students in his school. So in the beginning of the book, he is called in, to have a experiment that will make him smarter...

I like this book becuase it is writen in Charlie's narration, and it really helps the reader understand, the impact that  a persons intellect has an impact on how people think about them.  A quote that shows this is "I told him thanks doc you wont be sorry for giving me my 2nd chanse like MIss Kinnian says. And I meen it like I tolld them. After the operashun IM gonna try to be smart. Im gonna try awful hard"(Keyes, 11) This quote shows that he was taunted so much, that he didnt care if the operation would be harmful or not, he just wanted to be smart like the other kids so that he would blend in with everyone else.

I am looking forward to read the rest of this book becuase I think its written very well. It shows the theme about intellect and how a person is judged based on their mental ability and the amount of knowledge you have. IF you aren't capable of learning, you are considered dumb...but if you are...ur a nerd....
