Log:" The Invisible Man" #2

Few days ago, which I cannot remember when, I read page58-147 in “The Invisible Man”, by H.G. Wells, and it was not much different from what I expected. I conclude that the main character was an evil man from the posters of it, however, in the point of view of the victim. The book was mostly revealing the thoughts of the invisible man, which gave me clue of his sense of evil. Funny it may seem, I felt kind of thrill when I read his evil deeds, felt like I’m in the situation, it gets all the pressures out from me, kind of like when you punch your doll to pass out your anger.

One line from this part of the book that stands out for me is: “Next, her broke into Dr.Cuss’s office and smashed every medicine bottle there. Finally, he cut all the telegraph wires from Iping to the outside world.” I think these are very cruel things to do, knowing that the medicine bottles might meant a lot to the doctor, it might took him a lifetime to gather everything. But then again, I felt the invisible man’s anger as well, the doctor has intruded his privacy and spread weird rumor around. Anger could take over one’s mind and make him act his move before he think, it could not be all blame on the poor guy.

Another line that I paused to look upon was: “And be sure all the other doors to the inn are shut. He’s as sly as the devil. If there’s an unlocked door, he’ll find It.” this stood out for me because I don’t understand why everyone’s afraid of the invisible man. It’s true the invisible man might be dangerous, and he might have of turn insane, but maybe it’s the attitude of the others that cause the change in him. Perhaps if the other tries to understand him better, it might become a total different story, which wouldn’t be so interesting.

This section of “The Invisible Man” reminds me of something that happened to me. Few years before, when I was much more of a clueless kid, I trust people blindly. I thought of this girl as my close friend, but it turn out that I was the only one thinking that way, she spread false rumors about me. I really hate it when people think they know about me when they don’t even know my name. I also hate it when I am told of something I’m not, like in the rumors.

What’s probably going to happen next might be the revealing of the identity of the invisible man, and off course the revenge for those who betray him.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book because it’s only starting to get into the story, everything before that was like introductions. It’s not bad for a book written down so long ago to still attract students, since I’m not the only one who choose this book. After all, there must be something special about this book for it to stay a classic.
