The Main Misconception About Autonomous Cars
Are autonomous cars safer than cars now since humans really have no help in running them? I believe this is what most people worry about when they hear what autonomous cars are and I think this should be the least of their worries. Here's why.
I think people believe that autonomous cars are unsafe and that because no real human control is needed, that they are automatically labeled as less safe. From all the research and interviews I have conducted I am shocked by what I have found. People need to understand that the cars are programmed and made to follow the rules of driving one-hundred percent. Unlike humans who have hardly any patience when it comes to driving, autonomous cars will make that complete stop and will wait for their turn at a stop sign. Like I quoted before, 95% of accidents are caused by human error. The key word there is human. Although there is the possibility of a software glitch causing a problem or accident I would put my money on that being safer than a human since we put a large portion of our lives in the hands of technology now anyways.

Cars
Sydney,
This is one of the most interesting topics! I can't wait to read your paper. I wasn't really sure what you were talking about when you told me autonomous cars. Then after you explained it to me, I began to wonder has America really become so lazy that we are having our cars drive us around. But then you made your point about them being safer and I believe you make a valid point. It is a scary thought to think of people not driving but it is true that we as humans don't pay attention while driving and that leads to accidents. But I was wondering if people who are producing these cars are conducting further research to make the car more safe considering people aren't actually driving them. Are there any extra safety precautions the company is taking to reduce accidents. Also do you think they will use Siri or Apple products? Can't wait to read your paper! Go autonomous cars!

Syd- I think your paper is going to be fantastic. Autonomous cars a a very revolutionary invention, and I believe that before people start buying and accepting them, they will have to become more educated on what exactly an autonomous car is. I was really interested in your quote "95% of accidents are caused by human error.", because it shows that autonomous cars really, might be a better option for our society. The one problem I find with autonomous cars is the fact that driving is not only acting (driving itself) but reacting to what other drivers are doing; if one person has an autonomous car and the others around them do not, the autonomous car passenger really will have no way to control their own car in the event that the other drivers make poor decisions. Thanks for posting, after taking your quiz online I was very interested in what other people have to say about autonomous cars.
