Masks by Sarina

At BSGE (Baccalaureate School for Global Education) there was an Art Gallery. The artists in the Art Gallery were eleventh and twelfth graders in the school. These masks were created by a student in the eleventh grade, Sarina. I really liked these masks because they reminded me of a poem, "We Wear the Mask", by, Paul Laurence Dunbar. In this poem, they are expressing that the masks hide their true feelings. The variety of colors on these masks make me think that these masks would hide your true colors. I think that would mean that you are afraid to show who you really are.

These masks looked like they were made with very hard work and effort. The masks were very unique and i give a lot of credit to the artist. I thought the masks were amazing.

Katelyne,
Through your reflection on this piece, you have added insights that perhaps even the artist herself may have not considered. This is why I love to read reflections. Thank you for sharing your experience of visiting the IB Art Show. There is a book by Goffman called _The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life_ that has a chapter on "masks". It's a college level book that is read in college sociology courses.
