January 7

I took this photo using the same technique as the photo of the swans. This time i used a black poster board as the background, and kept the mirror below it to create the reflection. I also used a longer shutter to create the brighter colors on the matches. I decided to flip one upside down to create something different, instead of just having 7 matches standing the same way. I like the contrast of the bright matches with the dark background and the bright red of the match tips.

I really like this photo, it

I really like this photo, it is really interseting. The colors stand out so much more bright and flourescent on a black background. I also noticed the reflection of the matches bleow the actual matches. I also like how there is one match out of place, it gives the photo an edge to it. This is like a portrait for an object, which is really cool, i never thought of doing that before but now your work has inspired me to try it. :)

This photo is very eye catching and truly stunning. I really like how the background creates such a contrast with the red tips of the matches. This, in my opinion, is what makes this photo really eye catching. In addition the contrast between the light wood of the match and the black background also makes the photo really interesting. I also like how you can see the reflection of the matches on the bottom of the photo and that one of the matches is upside down. It really creates a cool effect on the photo.

This is an awesome photograph.  I love how simple yet complex this photograph is at the same time.  On top of that, I like the unusual, different, match that is upside down compared to the rest of them.  This photograph seems to have about 4 different colors, yet to me it looks amazing.  Definitely an excellent photograph, keep it up!

After looking at your picture of the swans I came and looked at this picture and it had the same eye-catching effect. I also noticed that you use a lot of the same techniques in your pictures. It's really great that your consistent within your photography. You used reflections and color contrasts in both of the pictures of yours that  I have seen, both of those things really add a lot to your photographs. I also really like the upside down match, because it's different from all the others and brings something new to the picture.

 I agree I also noticed

I agree I also noticed they use the same techniques.  To be honest, I love how simple the photograph is but it is extremely striking.  I will also take the idea of taking a unique photograph that is very colorful just like the swan and match photograph.  To do this, I believe I need a better camera.  A twist I will add will be similar to yours, for example, your upside down match.

Thank you so much! I think

Thank you so much! I think that taking simple pictures is something everyone should try and I hope you can find your own way to make a little twist in each photograph you take.

Do you really think that it

Submitted by HaleyR on Thu, 2011-01-13 15:16.

Do you really think that it is good to be consistent with your photography? Do you think that a good photographer can go out of their boundaries and not stay consistant? I think that photographers who push them selves to do things out of their comfort zones and different from themselves.

I actually do think its good

I actually do think its good to have a little consistency in your photos because it helps you to get better at specific type of skill. I think a good photographer can also go out of their comfort zone and I think that if you look at my other photos you'd see that I also take other types of shots, and because of this I do think that I push myself.

 There are so many things

There are so many things that are interesting about this photo. The colors are so vibrant, and the image itself looks so real. Did you take it on macro mode? I love the fact that the photo itself looks like a painting, and is so realistic. I think that it`s really cool that you thought of using a backdrop behind the matches. This adds such a great impact to the photo. It`s also so amazing that you can see the reflection of the matches, and the colors are still vibrant there. Good job!

Thank you! I actually took

Thank you! I actually took this on "Scene" mode, but with the macro focus moved to the left side of my viewfinder. I actually like to take pictures in scene mode because it gives you a general idea of where the ISO, White balance etc., should be. I think you should try taking some pictures in different scene modes and see how you like it!

Like the other comments say,

Like the other comments say, this picture holds such vibrant colors and they really draw you into the photo. For some reason this picture looks like a painting to me and that is why it is unique to me. You used objects in a very creative way. I especially like that one match is facing the other direction, you barely catch this change but when you do it adds something to the picture.

This is a really interesting photo. I love how one of the matches is upside down. Plus, the color of the matches is so strong and very powerful, in the way of the having them in front of a black poster. The mirror on the bottom creating the reflection looks really cool. I love your photo! Great Job!

The thing that captivated me

The thing that captivated me the most was the high intense red color from that match. As well as the fact that one was upside down. I have OCD so I noticed it and kinda felt like flipping it the right way. Go consistency! But in all seriousness I really like this picture. People can interpret

this picture in many different ways but I see it as the odd man out idea. That though it is the same around, there is always the one black swan that is just a little bit different.

One question I have for you is how did you get the matches to stand up like that? Was it glued to something or just you have very good balancing skills?

Anyway, I enjoyed this picture and I hope to see more soon.
