China's largest dairy company, China Mengniu Dairy Company destroyed a batch of milk that has been found to have aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a food fungus that can cause liver cancer. The government found the milk when they were testing the milk on Saturday. They destroyed a batch of milk on Satuday. The Chinese government is especially interested in food problems because in 2008 a chemical added to milk caused the death of six children and illness in 300,000 other children.
Aflatoxin can cause comas, hemorrhages, edema, liver cancer and other extremely serious problems. Children are affected the worst by aflatoxin and can have stunted growth and delayed development because of this. Ways of detecting aflatoxin in humans are by blood and urine samples; however, this is not neccessarily effective because a person's diet can affect whether or not you can detect it.
