Mock Trial: Why we Mock

Discussion

We Mock because we love it. We love the feeling of pride when you win a trial. We love being is a competition which you need to calculate like a chess player, you need the poise of an actor, and the wit of a debater. We love the satisfaction of crafting this entire case from the bare-bones outline of the casebook. We love to Mock because it the only place to get this experience short of becoming an attorney.

Mock trial is a lot of hard. It takes months of preparation before the casebook comes out to train in law and courtroom procedure, then the real work begins. When the casebook comes out, it is a month of frantic work forming the case, writing questions, practicing speeches, and making sure everyone on the team is centered on the same theory. But even with all the difficult work that has to be done it is a lot of fun.

I love my Mock Trial team. We are all really nice and smart. It is fun tossing ideas around, while trying to write a seven-page line of questioning. We all pull our own wait and work together well. We support each other when we are under the stress of deadlines and stage fright. The key to a great Mock Trial experience is a team you enjoy spending time with. Otherwise all those hours of your time after school or on the weekend you spend on Mock Trial will seem really annoying.

Also one reason Mock Trail is awesome is the fact you get to yell “Objection your honor!” and people don’t look at you like you are crazy.
