Moving to America for A New Life (An Interview)
14biswaso: Why did you decide to move to this country?
B.G.: Our family, my wife, and kids, decided to come to this country
because we heard that it was a country of new opportunities. Back in our country
of Bangladesh life was not as easy as life here. There was not enough
protection. Meaning there were many bad people walking around and causing
problems to the community. When out second child cane we found it better if we
moved from all of this chaos. I also needed to find a better job in order to
make it easier and better for my family. We came to America for more opportunities
and a new life.
14biswaso: How did you successfully come to America?
B.G.: Well, it was a pretty rough time but we knew that moving for now
was the best option we had. At first my parents were not really satisfied about
the fact that we were leaving but after I convinced them that we wanted to move
for the sake of the children they agreed to help us in any way possible. My parents
were the top of the whole village, meaning if anyone needed anything they would
come to my parents for help. After three months my parents got us tickets to
America. After a week we were already to go. Most of the things we had we gave
it to our family and friends. We only took clothes and some antiques to America
with us. We finally were on the plane and flew to America. Once we were on the
ground both my kids were amazed at the view that they had received. We knew a
couple of my friends so we decided to stay with them until we found a new home.
We lived in Indiana.
14biswaso: Did you face any problems once you were living at your friend’s
B.G.: Actually I did not; neither did the rest of my family. Even now
we thank them for all the things that they did for us. Everything that his
family did for us was for the better cost. When our family was collecting
enough income we decided to pay more than half the rent for our thanks, instead
he told us that as long as we live under the same roof you pay half and we will
pay half. Sometimes I feel as if he really was my own brother.
14biswaso: After moving out from that house how did you continue to
have hope for better opportunities?
B.G.: After we moved my friends wished me the best of luck and we were
able to get a house for w fir amount of money. As we moved in we noticed that
the children had improved in their grades and that when I decided that this was
going to work. The next day I quit my job to get another one because I already
had a degree in cooking. So I decided that this was a good time for me to start
a business of my own at a restaurant. My wife agreed and she helped me around the
restaurant as much as she could soon enough we were like an American family. We
all had enough time for studies, for play and enough time for other things in between.
America is a place for new opportunities and a better life.
14biswaso: What do you have planned for the future?
B.G.: When my children grow a little more I wish to bring my parents
and my wife's parents to America in order for them to be able to see how we had
a new life. I'm pretty sure they would be really thankful and happy for the
children and for us.
