Music in Different Languages

Listening to music in different languages to interpret some of the culture of a certain region has become a hobby of mine. I get yelled at for spending too much time watching overseas shows and music videos. Many people say that music is their life but to me music is another language that the world needs to learn to stay connected. Music accompanied by dance becomes the ultimate communication skill because even if the person can not understand what you are saying your expressions or your dancing style give them an idea of you as a person.

My playlist mainly Korean but not all of it, I also listen to Hindi, Bengali, English and Chinese music. It doesn't matter the language as long as the music is good and it makes you feel good it's considered good music. Actually many people would disagree with me but I think any type of music is good if it doesn't give me a headache. Korean pop is the best music in the world, according to me, The music is worth rivaling the western music industry. Hopefully the gap between different languages are filled through music.

The song that started my journey on a global quest for music is Replay by SHINee. This is a fairly new contemporary boy band in Korea. It is a 5 member group that is determined to not only take over the music industry but also lead the fashion and dance trends. Their average age is only 16. The five members are Onew, Jonghyun, Minho, Key and Taemin. They have training for about 2-3 each, under SM enteratinment; a company that has cranked out global stars like BoA, Super Junior and Jang Ri In/ Zhang Li Yin. Their diverse style and fresh attitude gave them an edge over other artists such as 2PM and U-Kiss. Last year they won newcomer awards in Korea and at the Asian music festival.

Replay is the first song I heard by SHINee, this song is one of the closest to my heart the melodies and lyrics are really good. It makes you want to literally replay the song over and over again. The lyrics are very unique but that's not what draws me in. The music is so amazing that you can dance to it but you can also fall asleep listening to Replay. The lyrics make me think why someone would be so willing to care for another. it's cute because the song describes a perfect love story between two people who have an age difference. I never get tired of listening to Noona nomu yeppo which in Korean means older sister you're so pretty. The video is actually very special the dancing is remarkable and the charming story helps make the song even more spectacular.

My connection to the song is I wish I was that girl who had someone that cared for her so much that he was willing to give up everything.{ Ah! mushy much:) } I also wish I could dance like the five of them. Rino Nakasone did a fantastic with the choreography and it is really hard to learn but I still love dancing to it and having fun changing it up and thinking what i would do if the girl was me.

0.0 nice post, I can really feel your feelings towards music specially Korean pop. Personally, I think that the Japanese Visual Kei is the best genre of music out there. I mean, it's something out of the ordinary and some people may call it rock when it's not. I was actually thinking that the Visual part has something to do with the way the guys dress in the bands which I totally think it's cool. You should try listening to Visual Kei ( i don't promise that you will not get a headache), just make sure you chose the right bands -.- lmfao. Although music is my world, I am very open minded to any genre that has ever existed. I would probably like at least one song from genres that I have never even heard of. Although, I do feel that music is my way to "heaven" or "outer-space" because it takes me out of this world. Yes, I do agree that the best communication between people form different backgrounds can be through music and dancing. I love the way you sincerely explained how you have grown to like SHINee which displays your openness to different things out there in the world. Of course, positioning yourself in someone else' shoes can be an awesome thing because you can also see through the perspective of that person. Thanks for posting this, it shows your open mindedness and I like the way you think of music in a different perspective than most people do. =D

The one sentence that stands

The one sentence that stands out to me when reading your post is: " Music accompanied by dance becomes the ultimate communication skill because even if the person can not understand what you are saying your expressions or your dancing style give them an idea of you as a person. " I really connect with this as I was a world language teacher and a dancer, and one of my true passions is choreography. Dancing is truly one of the best ways to communicate with people and the interpretation of a dance or even music can be so different for people, as their own experiences drive the interpretation too. Another sentence with that is: "Hopefully the gap between different languages are filled through music. " I certainly hope so and am thrilled that we share the same interests.

Thanks for sharing your post. I do hope you continue your interests in listening to music in different languages as it will broaden your mind and experiences in life. I look forward to reading more of your posts in the near future.
